he joined the u.s navy in 1944 and received an hornable discharge in 1946. after being discharged in the navy, he came to san francisco that same year and started working for the united states postal service in 1957 where mr. gal red was hired by the san francisco fire department. the high pressure unit in 1957 as a laborer and was the first black laborer in the high pressure water system unit. after working a year as a laborer for the fire department, he saw there were no black comerers in san francisco and was encouraged to go back to school to better his skills and obtained his high school floem. in 1970, san francisco created a program to allow minorities who were interested in becoming plummers. joe took the opportunity and completed the program in 1972 and took an competition and became the first black plumber of the san francisco water department. joe will be dealer missed. he is survived by two sisters, two sons and will be greatly missed by many family members and friends. i opened with this memorial today just to acknowledge that we are going to be
