the danger was not just for the u.s. navy and the merchant ships and u-boats themselves. they would face more defensive measures than they did over southwest africa. talking about. u.s. and canada. in my opinion they were pretty well prepared for the u-boats. they had technology and resources available in 1918. if you look at canada, none of their ships part of their defenses were capable of taking on a you cruiser -- u-cruiser. the u-cruisers has six inch guns. but, the scarecrow effect of them escorting a convoy cannot be overestimated. u-cruiser captain is looking at back and saying there are a lot of defensive ships there. i am only one u-boat. the u.s. navy at this time is sort of drafting yachts. if you had a good size ship it might get taken over by the u.s. navy or you can volunteer it for service. they stick a gun on it, man it with a crew and there you have a warship. these are the official warships of the u.s. navy. this is a destroyer that would have been off the coast. those are two submarine chasers. there is a small three inch gun somewhere on the mound -- m
