on the eve of the civil war the u.s. navy had about 7000, 600 enlisted soldiers and about 1500 officers. 1554. lincoln is going to try to recruit more sailors. he is going to ask for 18,000 more men to enlist in the navy. all of these new recruits are going to have a very minimal naval experience. you're going to have people who are trying to work and man boats that don't know what they're doing. always a great idea for success. at its max strength, which is an early 1862 the u.s. navy will have over 50,000 men. about 51,500. plus an additional 16,880 laborers. those will be mechanics, people working on the ships. the total number of people who work in the u.s. navy, so, this is over the course of four whole years, is over 100,000. 101, 000, 207. 15% of those will actually be african american men who are able to enlist in the navy starting in 1863. they'll be about 18,000 people. most importantly at the u.s. navy has boats. which you need if you are a navy. at the start of the war they have 42 vessels. that is misleading. onl

but the u.s. navy in the u.s. military knows what the confederacy is up to so there like we should have our own ironclad. so she will create a kind of a commission to come up with the various design ironclad and design one of the most famous and that is the monitor. so the battle will unfold over two days, there's a two day battle. and they had the confederate ironclad in virginia and it is good command of buchanan and i keep using the word she, because 19th century, that's what they did and so, buchanan is in control of virginia so this as vessel and going to. "the new york times" says in the course of the investigation, the navy "discovered syringes and performance-enhancing drugs in his car," and later "discovered about 40 candidates had either tested positive, or had admitted using steroids or other drugs in violation of navy regulations." mullen's autopsy concluded he died from bacterial pneumonia and did not have drugs in his system at the time of death. his mother regina mullen adamant that while he'd considered it, he did not use drugs. >> it could have been fr

nbc news reported a ship belonging to the iranian navy attempted to capture a u.s.0 p.m. local time on monday. joining us now is pentagon correspondent courtney kuby. >> the u.s. thunder bolt, which is a patrol ship, saw this iranian support ship towing a sail drone about 11:00 last night. they tied to radio to the iranians many times but with no response. they were trying to tell them that's our drone. it's operating in international waters. it's not causing any kind of hazard to shipping and let it go. so the u.s. launched at least one helicopter out of bahrain and the thunder bolt sent a rigid hole inflatable boat towards this area trying to cut that towline, but the iranians cut it first. so we got a statement from the head of u.s. central command. he praised the u.s. professionalism in this case saying that the professionalism and competence of the crew of the uss thunderbolt prevented iran from this illegal action. this incident once again demonstrates iran's continued destabilizing, illegal, and unprofessional activity in the middle east. the u.s. military ma
