of 18 to 23 feet above normal tide levels. the hurricane's path up the southeast u.s. coast is uncertain but governors of several states, georgia have called for evacuations. the north carolina governor called for a state of emergency as well. florida's governor outlined plans to evacuate nursing homes and help others to get out of the way of the storm. >> please listen to the instructions, heed the instructions and do what you need to do to keep you and your family safe. >> reporter: mandatory evacuation orders going to affect at 10:00 our time this morning in georgia and south carolina. it is one hour from now. emergency officials in south carolina have ordered more than 800,000 people along the coast to leave the area. the airlines have canceled nearly 1000 flights, most of them in and out of order. the national weather service is that life-threatening storm surges and hurricane force winds are on their way to the u.s. mainland. the conditions will be off the florida east coast later tonight. and last possibly into the middle of the week. >>> red cross here in california is standing by, waiting for hurricane dorian to hit. o
