and see if i could make the u.s. team and so i really went for it. >> did she ever. nnie made the team in 1984. >> i got to work and see the finish line. i've made it, i'm going to win, boom, that's when i fell on the bad spot on the ice and i was so disappointed. i was number one in the world. all of a sudden, i'm sitting in the snow. >> she got back up. finishing the run and walking away with two bronze medals a and a silver. bonnie st. john became the second fastest female skier in the world on one leg. >> i realized the woman who won first place, she had also fallen and gotten up. that's when i realized she didn't beat me by skiing faster. she beat me by getting up faster. so people fall down, winners get up. sometimes the gold medal winner is just the person who gets up the fastest. >> bonnie hasn't missed a beat since. she went on to graduate from harvard and oxford university. she did a stint on the white house economic council during the clinton administration. but moving her leg hasn't been her own challenge. there was a tragic childhood experience she tried

what are the prospects for the u.s. team as they get going tomorrow? good chances. i like the team. i like their leader shirp. what it comes down to it not just for the u.s. team but for all the teams, is gold. what's different in the olympics is it's basically one game at a time versus the seven game series. if you have good goaltending you'll have a good chance. >> gentlemen, this question really comes from my 7-year-old, who asked me last evening why it was that you two fought in practice. number one, did that really happen. then i want to ask rob and jack a question on the commodities markets. >> i think i will take that one. no, rob and i never fought in practice. we have been pretty good friends. we met in 1979 in a world tournament in moscow and became pretty good friends. it looked good in the movie but didn't happen in real life. >> gentlemen, let me ask you this. i know both of you look at the commodities market itself, you look at oil, at energy, a lot of the consensus expectations for this year are relatively bearish on the space. do you sh

in preparation of the goim, a u.s. team worked with engineers, scientists. did you u.s. have to do that? >> they did. the olympics is an arms race of teams working with different scientists and engineers. the place you see it is in the winter games , because they are relipt on equipment. ski jumpers are training with the wind tupel. how does it work, what does it do. >> they are in the air for a few seconds. you don't have mp practice. they can go in a wind tunnel and practice form and which parts of their form creates the during. they found a wind tunnel and they retro fitted it. they built ski bindings and projects the drag data. they can practice what we want and take what they larment. >> they have a reputation of being chilled. the members are wearing a device to track g-force. what is this? >> it's made by kata fault sports. it is strapped to the boots when they do tripping runs in the half vibing. it has an accelerometer which measures g-forces, velocity in the middle of it. they cap figure out how to ayoust the form to make the tricks bigger. it's about going big.

u.s. speed skating team, the results were no different. not a single skater on the podium. brian hansen had the best finish for the u.s. in the 1500 meter race. he placed seventh. there were high hopes for shani davis who won silver in this event the last two olympics. he finished 11th. >> it's not like i'm a young pup anymore, i'm 31. but, you know, there's a will, there's a way, man. i love speed skating and i definitely feel like there's a lot more i can do better than what i did. it's just unfortunate that it's a possibility that i'll have to wait four years to do something. >> some are calling day ten a disaster for team usa. that's because the u.s. has traditionally won more winter olympic medals in speed skating than in any other sports. in the men's 1,000 meter race, russia won gold and silver. j.r. celski wiped out altogether, crashing during the quarterfinals. now, another shutout as well, this one on the mountain for the women's alpine ski team. austria captured the gold and bronze medals, while germany grabbed silver in the super g race. julia mancuso who lives a
