u.s. virgin islands right now. joining me by phone is the governor of the u.s. virgin islands. you for joining me. have you had a chance to get any reports of what the situation is in the virgin islands? >> good afternoon, ali. as a matter of fact, it's kind of like a tale of two cities. i just took a drive from christianson to fredrickson. a couple of downed branches. but we seem okay in st. thomas. the eye of the storm seemed to have reform somewhere between st. thomas and st. croix. we have been taking quite a lashing for the last hour from torrential rain. they have recorded gusts of up to 111 miles on the island. >> we were talking to congresswoman plaskett recently a few minutes ago. she said that was fine. however, as we know in the case of st. thomas, until this has passed and crews have been able to go out and get a sense of what's going on, we won't know what the damage is. what state was st. thomas in given the damage from the last hurricane? >> well, you know, st. thomas is moving steadily towards recovery at this .2 years later it's mostly our tourism that was impa

u.s. virgin islands, all the way back over here, british virgin islands, very, very heavy rainfall and likely gusts over hurricane strength. that's part of the problem. it eventually moves back into the ocean and then toward back toward florida, georgia and the carolinas at 115-mile-per-hour storm. earlier today it was 100 miles per hour, but the 11:00 advisory bumped that to 115, major storm, category 3 hurricane making landfall somewhere in the southeastern usa over the weekend. now, it always could stop, turn to the right and eventually back out to the ocean because this thing has been unpredictable to start with. now all the models really saying it's going to go this direction. does it stop when it gets there and turn to the right like the gfs, the american model, or does it keep right on going, right through the space coast or up and down the east coast of florida? that's the real rub right here. deeper in intensity, the pressure is going lower and the winds are picking up. i saw a wind gust of 72.5 from the hurricane hunter aircraft flying through it right now. we'll see this thing take
