enforcement to the us government, which the ustr exercised for the first time in the last few weeks with the uaw case. we are thrilled to see this law is actually being utilized as it was intended. and the ustr, i believe we need a worker centered trade policy, which we are in lockstep with that vision. that we should not just be looking at a race to the bottom and that trade policy can be used as a tool to lift up wages and standards for all working people. we have certainly had our challenges in mexico, primarily because of the protection contract that you probably know a lot about having been to this debate. the goal was to work with the government to eliminate those contracts and to have free and fair trade unions as a centerpiece of democracy in order to bring the economy up. that is what we have been doing. we are working with the ustr to make sure workers voices, workers perspectives, are viewed in every decision we make and every policy we advocate for. >> would you like to see -- in terms of bessemer, what should happen? that election should be rerun. liz: that was like four questions i

it brought the uaw, lawmakers, environmental groups all supporting the president's vision, because itct the climate, clean our air, and create good, high-paying jobs for american workers. amna: dan, i want to come to you for your reaction. and i will quote you quickly. in a strong statement, you said that this look like a loophole-laden, swiss cheese rules. why don't you think this is going to work? dan: well, i think fred is -- first of all, thank you for having me on. fred is right. the vision is good. but action is better. and these standards don't take enough action. the president is right that global warming is an existential threat. it's roasting the west. it's stoking forest fires. it's worsening storms. so now isn't the time to propose weak standards riddled with loopholes, and promise strong ones later. the biden proposal expands loopholes, and so it cuts less carbon emissions than the obama standards that auto companies agreed to nine years ago. and the climate crisis was a lot less worse then. amna: so, fred, a lot of people have raised this question about some of the exist

resolution due to both pressures from groups like the american medical association and from unions like the uaw that wanted to tie insurance to employment. forgotten in that narrative is a group of religious hospitals that would publicly say that it is absolutely vital to provide health care to poor people. this is necessary and it's tied to our religious beliefs. at the same time, because they felt a government health care system would completely destroy their own hospital systems, didn't want any part of a government health care system. this is an area in which it doesn't necessarily seem to be about religion or theology. but hospitals are businesses, corporations. groups that were invested in the health care industry, therefore, were making calculated business decisions that contradicted their own sort of social justice or theological orientations around health care and healing. it's this that deserves more sustained attention, not just be my but by others because it is so complex. there isn't a single party line about what religion is in this space but also religious groups themselves. ther
