joining us to discuss more is paul donovan, managing director at ubs. a very good morning to you. thanks for joining us. let's kick off on the big global story of the day. china gdp coming out overnight. it's clear things have stabilized there since the start of the year, both in term of growth and sentiment. what's the main driver for that improvement? is it sustainable? >> so i think it's quite clear the chinese authorities very definitely want growth to be comfortably over 6% this year. reform essentially has been sacrificed on the altar of a decent growth number. so what we're seeing is policy stimulus really coming through in these numbers. if you look at the credit growth numbers in particular, they were stronger than expected. that's feeding through into housing demand. that's feeding through into construction. the good, old-fashioned sources of demand powered by stimulus are really coming through. is it sustainable? well, it's sustainable for now. absolutely. it's sustainable for this year, maybe next year. on the five-year view, no. this is a bubble that is building. tren

emily: for more now on microsoft, we are joined by ubs managing director of software technology, brentll, and we are joined again by cory johnson. cory, this is supposed to be the future of microsoft. from what you are seeing now, is it enough? cory: i think it is safely the future of microsoft and this transition has gone frankly pretty well. when it comes to cloud hosting, microsoft is a giant business out there doing it more than $4 billion in revenue. microsoft consumers are doing safely along with azure and they have a lot of success with the type of clients they are getting. google is third in this, but we don't have any solid numbers on this yet. emily: now talking about the profit shortfall, our microsoft reporter just got off the phone with amy would, who is the cfo at microsoft, and she said it was due to catch-up tax expenses. she says what we are seeing is an acceleration into the cloud which brings them into a higher tax rate overall in licensing revenue. azure, compute, and database growth doubled year to year. so, brent, how do you see them weathering this transition to

i'll donovan of ubs puts it front and center.apanese yen is one of the litmus papers of a troubled level system. i need a basic explanation of the bafflement last week. explain to the mortals why the yen is stronger given the challenges of the japanese macroeconomics. don't forget, it is not just a one sided equation. you've got to think about what is going on in the states as well. particularly with capital flows in the united states. not buying soare many dollars as they used to be vying. middle eastern dollars are actively selling and bringing the money back. because central banks reserves are weighted, that is creating a generally weaker dollar environment. japan has a current account surplus block. that means the price of the yen is basically the price at which japanese investors are willing to sell their currency. the price of the dollar is the price at which foreigners are prepared to buy dollars. the japanese are a bit reluctant to sell yen at the moment. we don't have central banks buying the dollar. tom: bring the chart
