. -- to limit uber/.-commerce entrepreneur mark lori talks about taking on amazon with his new jet.com. we start with breaking news -- texas instruments releasing its second-quarter results from nevada. let's go to the breaking news desk and bring in our senior market correspondent. julia: matching estimates at $.65 a share. $3.23 billion. not much little where estimates stood. revenue was down 2% year after year. the company says it was inclusive of notably weak demand in communications and continued strong demand in automotive. i'm also seeing the forecast for the third quarter from the company. we could definitely see some stock movement on that. the company is projecting earnings per share of 62-72 cents. i'm seeing $.75 on that basis for the company. also looking for revenue for the third quarter, $3.15 billion. it looks like the forecast is short of the estimate. if you look at the sales forecast for the third quarter it looks to be potentially short of what analysts had been anticipating. we could

uber will not only offer more dispatch to moving people around, but now it has uber rush and uber grocerymy suggestion to folks, either legislators or is to offertaxes, business models with better services. it is all about the user experience in the customer service. the feedback loop you see in uber you can give a rating to the driver, that is critical in improving the service. we need the same for the yellow cab industry. >> i am curious. you mentioned the taxi industry could use some reform and adopt some of this technology. to what extent is the horse out of the barn? you have uber with such genetic growth in the city. can taxes taxi's catch up? >> right now uber does not have any pre-reservation. it is all on demand. you can imagine some will jump the gun and get ahead to reservations. you can have a reservation-type customer and uber does not offer that right now. a service to move kids around in a safeway. the fleet guys have to start the creatively about opportunities while uber is successfully great to see of an american start of now going global, it is also -- there are opportun

"uber" in the headlines. uber now faces two critical >>> not a week goes by without uber in the headlines both locally and nationally. uber faces two critical court cases and potential state legislation. our political analyst larry gursen is with us. >> reporter: the basic question is whether uber and the other companies like lyft and sidecar are technology companies or transportation companies. uber says, of course that it provides an app for people to find their way, passengers,s that, to go into cars, whatnot. competitors like taxis and limousine services say that uber transported people and should be subject to the same kinds of regulations governing these companies. the difference, of course, isn't trivial. the fact of the matter is that taxi and limousine companies pay social security and other kinds of local registration fees. uber has none of them which allows for less expensive rides. >> i was going to get to that. what's the political angle with all this? >> reporter: a couple of things here. two we

uber's not only changing the business world, but the political world. have so many politicians not just mayor de blasio here in new york latched on to it and made it the target of political warfare? >> reporter: what do they say about economics? it's about creative destruction. and when you have creative destruction. some things get destroyed. old models old incumbent firms, and in the case of bill de blasio in new york he is raising the issue of traffic congestion but the rise of uber is also threatening the incumbent taxi drivers who have relationships, financial relationships with the city with its politicians and so that's not an insignificant item. secondly uber represents broader changes in the national economy, that's what hillary clinton and some democrats have pointed to. although they are not to be fair to democrats, they are not saying uber is bad in and of itself it raises some problems and underscores some problems in the economy we have to deal with. >> what about the republicans, what are they saying in terms of how companies are changing

emily: how big could uber become?l: when we made the investment, we did not know what i am about to suggest, which is it appears that uber, with its convenience and price points, will be competitive at some level against -- the first thing is rental cars. we are now anecdotally meeting lots of riders who say they have gotten rid of their car. that is something that was never in our original investment thesis, but opens up an opportunity about as large as a business opportunity could be. emily: what is it like working with travis, the ceo, and how does he compare with all the ceos you have worked with in your day? bill: if you're going to compare him to people that built companies that are $100 billion or more, that is pretty audacious. i would say, if i look along a vector, he is most like bezos and the business is most like amazon. it is not a facebook. it is an operational intensive business. but i find him to be most like jeff. the thing that is least well understood about travis is he is an insanely good recruiter
