the uc-eligible, in order to get into uc, you do need to have c averages. and so the chart on the left shows the students who are in each of the categories, having achieved the categories a-c. so we have a total of 4024 students who are currently juniors. 2216 of them are on-track and they have passed the classs that we would expect them to pass, and have met, like the english, the science, the social studies, the pe, in order to be aligned to the uc requirements. we have another 1319 students who have 110 credits, but they are missing one of those benchmarks. and again, that benchmark could be that they failed one semester of pe, they failed a math course. it could be that they are an english-learner and haven't yet had the opportunity to take their core english class, because most of the beginning english learners take those classs in junior year when they have to double up. then we have 296 who are in the moderately -- ho who are in the off-track, those below in the credits who have done to 80 credits and then you see the numbers for the moderately off-t

so the only online provider that is crucially uc-approved is cyberhigh. and it's the one that is -- >> the most boring. >> the driest or most boring. there are other ones that are in the process of being uc-approved and can count for credits with principal authorization. we went through a vetting process and we have two online vendors who students find much more engaging and they have second language options, videos. you can listen. it's much more interactive way of learning. so we would like to expand those so that schools have more of an opportunity to use those. >> i know that it was a pilot program at some schools. do we have any success rates on that? >> i don't have the exact data. it's something we could certainly bring back. we used oddsey before. we had a lot of success with that. and then aveneta has been used at john oconnell and that was the one they selected. >> if possible, i presented before the youth commission and the youth commission asked us specifically for the success rates of the targeted recovery options. so if we could get that inf

we have been able to grow the tech industry thanks to uc berkeley, and the bio tech thanks to uc sf and san diego. and we need to continue to invest in our future and investing in education and investing in uc, and making sure that those intaoutions are protected. i think that government needs to step out by making sure that we are not being overly burdensome. i think that we make the citizen and businesses go to too many places at times. i think that there is a significant amount of bureaucracy that could be cut. >> you mentioned that education is one of the things that government has to be responsible for. >> california used to have a education system that was the envy of the system how do we get it back >> we get it back through funding it. from kindergarten to my time at uc berkeley, i just started dropping off my daughter at kindergarten this year and i am concerned about the state of public education. we fund our kids about $8,000 per pupil that feels like a lot of money, compare that to new york, new jersey, massachusetts, and you are talking anywhere between $14,000 to $15,000.
