the uc regents meet here. the issues on the table today the uc board is facing a lot of tough questions about how tuition money is being spent. now, in january the regents voted to raise tuition and fees by $300 a semester saying the university was strapped for cash. well, a few months later the state auditor released findings about the office of the president that it failed to disclose $175 million in funds. it's providing exorbitant salaries an benefits and changed responses to the survey of the auditor. at a hearin president janet napolitano apologized and promised to implement reforms. governor jerry brown's budget is holding back $50 million from the uc system. >> i put the $50 million in there so we can hold their feet to the fire. we'll keep the money until they performed to the auditor's satisfaction. >> reporter: but there is still the matter of that tuition hike set to go into effect this fall. lieutenant governor gavin newsom who is on the board has already tweeted the board must reverse its tuition
