tonight a search is underway for a uc berkeley soccer player missing in southern california. arin academy in san rafael. his family is in los angeles helping authorities try to find him. we're live from berkeley with what they know. >> reporter: eloi vasquez is a freshman midfielder on the uc berkeley soccer team, and on friday he drove down with teammates, who hey friends at usc. that night he went to a fraternity party at at around 1:00 in the morning his cousin told me vasquez tried to talk his friends into running to the beach but they told him no. the beach is 15 miles away. vasquez decided to leave the party on his own, and a short time later he made a phone call to his friend in berkeley. he said he was lost, alone, worried and needed her help. she told him to reach out to his friends who were with him at the party. at 2:15 in the morning he called her again repeating the same story mentioning something bat beach. that's that last time anyone heard from vasquez. his parents drove down to los angeles and are pleading for any help that loads

. >>> the black student union at uc berkeley wants the university to make institutional changes to attract and retain more african american students. now according to the san francisco chronicle student union members gave the chancellor 10 demands back in february on how to increase recruitment. the demands which came with a march 17 deadline includes hiring african american advisors and creating an african american student resource center. now, uc berkeley didn't meet the exact demands by last night's deadline but they did tell the black student union in a letter last week steps are being taken towards equity and inclusion. the stats show african americans represent only 3% of undergrad students at berkeley. >>> later on today the sigma alpha epsilon fraternity will unveil the national plan to fight intolerance, last week's the fraternity's chapter at oklahoma university was kicked off the campus because of a video that showed frat members engaged in a racist chant s.a.e. is claiming its national plan also involves a review of all of its chapters around the country. >>> some commuters in

the family of a missing uc, berkeley soccer player is now planning his funeral. los angeles police yesterday identified the body of 19-year-old eloi vazquez. he was found dead on a freeway in l.a. saturday morning. vasquez was a freshman on the cal soccer team. he had been on spring break with some teammates at a u.s. c frat party when he went for a walk, got lost, and tried to run across interstate 10. >> just like a bright sun. he had joy in him. he was a beautiful young man. he was like, i don't know, an adonis. >> very close to all of his players. and our guys are grieving pretty hard right now. >> a family member says funeral services will be held on a soccer field. >>> saying good-bye to san jose police officer michael johnson. the plans for his memorial starting to take shape. thursday morning a memorial procession will start at a funeral home in los gatos and move up winchester boulevard. lit go through campbell to stevens creek boulevard in san jose, then that procession will travel to the sap center. there will be rolling road closures along that route
