a uc berkeley spokesperson said the university will meet with protesters and listen to their concernsif the encampments come down. the encampment first emerged there at sproul plaza weeks ago and unlike so many other encampments across the country, the situation here has largely remained peaceful, with uc berkeley officials taking a hands off approach to the encampment. it is a very different scene, though, at the university of san francisco, where student protesters there are now defying an ultimatum to remove their encampment from campus. student organizers held a rally at the university at three this afternoon. that was the deadline that the school's president gave to the antiwar protesters to leave the site. the students have been camping now for two weeks. they're calling for the university to to the war in israel. and to support palestinians in gaza. >> we've had folks whose friends lost 30 over 30 people from their family entire, like bloodlines lost. so all of this really, like, amplifies the need for us to be a voice for the people who don't have a voice. >> usf president pau

uc davis. students there set up tents this morning and sent the university a list of demands, including divestment, from israel. uc davis chancellor shared a statement tonight saying the university is working with the protesters to avoid disruption to classes. the student protesters at san francisco state have similar demands for their counterparts across the state, and today the university president heard them out in a public forum. students at other campuses have had negotiations with the university leaders, but the protesters here say this is the first time the conversation has happened in public view. for president. lynn mahoney told the protesters the school may consider avoiding investments in companies involved in war, but she wouldn't agree to student demands that she called the war in gaza a genocide. >> my job is actually to create the space for content neutral. that's that democratic process again. so no, as a president of a university, i don't make political statements. >> i am very optimistic about how this conversation proceeded. we are, again, very thankful for president mahoney to
