we dig into some new research out of ucla with one of our covid experts. plus, killer whales put on a show in the monterey bay. what makes this sighting so special? you're watching nbc bay area news tonight. pandemic may be largely over, but we are still researching its long term impacts. now, a new study out of ucla suggests a potential link between covid and developmental problems in babies. the study looked at babies whose mothers had confirmed cases of covid during pregnancy. it found that just under 12% of the toddlers studied showed signs of some sort of neurodevelopmental delay. for comparison, only 2% of babies in a control group had similar issues. now, the study also looked at the same babies once they reached 28 months, 11% screened positive for autism spectrum disorder. normally, about 2% of toddlers at that age begin showing signs of autism. it is important to note, though, the study's findings are still being peer reviewed. tonight we're getting some perspective on this study. joining us now, doctor monica gandhi, an infectious disease expert
