this was a fire, a controlled burn that was up near ukiah. so certainly we saw some of that haze moving into our skies today. we may see that again, we're not done with the quite yet. still some patchy fog has moved in the bay, but it is very patchy out there right now. the winds have been whipping around a good part of the bay area today. right now to 24 at the pier there pier one in san francisco, 16 downtown near beach. but all around. we're seeing some gusty winds. we've had some gusts over 30 miles per hour. in fact, we had a gust of 35 at sfo early on this evening currently 60 mile an hour winds at mcnear certainly calm conditions shell, though tho since i'm 60 mile an hour winds and then you see the breeze right through the delta port. chicago little road. yeah. you get some pretty good win as you make your way through the delta. but it was a concern with some of that smoke making its way into the bay area from this fire. you can see this on one of our computer models are picking up some of that smoke from the controlled burn working i

4.0, we don't get that many of them, so as we look at where it happened, it was just northwest of ukiah, and it's possible that you may have felt some of that, but looking at the frequency of earthquakes that we have here in california, and we get about 100 a day, if you don't feel most of those, because most of them are below a 4.0, and of course, the most active fault is the san andreas, this is parallel to the an san dre was fault which we'll have to watch closely because some of that lateral movement could possibly trigger a larger earthquake. so we'll be watching that throughout the morning, as well as our forecast. i'll have more on that in a few minutes. mike, how is the commute moving? >>> this is a problem out of san francisco, the lower deck, getting onto the bay bridge out of the city. let's look at the map. police activity basically blocking your right lanes, only your left lane gets by and the build is happening over the last few minutes. a little bit longer for the slower drive, again, one lane getting onto the bay bridge, all the san francisco on-ramps close to that span

worse with severe drought across parts of the tri-valley and into the east bay as well as up around ukiah santa rosa, the mode coastline in a moderate drought. so if you look at how much rain we need to catch up to normal, well, we've measured over 12 inches of rain in santa rosa but that's not nearly good new. we need almost 20 inches of rain to catch up to normal to catch up for the water year. our chances of catching up to there are looking very slim especially looking beyond the next week or two in the forecast, not seeing any rain headed our way, so it's very likely that these deficits will continue to grow and our vegetation is drying out pretty fast. that at the same time that we got that last measurement of the sierra snow pack, and they are saying we've only gotten about 50% of our normal amount of snow. that's what we use during the summertime, the snow melt that drains into the reservoirs for our summertime water usage, so it looks like it's definitely time to start conserving water, especially looking through this forecast when we know there's no more rain headed our way. at l

to 75, it's going to be a little bit warmer in some of those inland spots like antioch, as well as ukiah 71 in san jose, palo alto reaching 70 degrees and 60 in san francisco. let's talk about this rain we've all been talking about it and watching every run of the computer models. it shows that low moving in as we head toward sunday and moves on through. another one is behind that but it looks like the rain stays to the north. one chance of rain in the forecast. we could see decent rainfall totals and this could change between now and then but it is showing an inch of rain and for parts of the north bay that's not going to help us out too much with the drought but it will put the fire season at bay ands with' look at the sierra the potential of check this out, ten inches of snow in kingvale. that could prolong our ski season and provide a little more water storage for the dry summer months as we look at our temperatures, much cooler for sunday into monday as that rain moves in. we'll keep you updated. >>> how is it looking for the commute, mike? >> it's looking pretty calm but i need to

our inland valleys in spots like livermore and napa reaching into the low 80s today, and mid-80s for ukiah but, of course, we're keeping an eye on our rainfall deficits. i just got the update of the drought monitor. because of this huge rainfall deficit we've seen the drought worsen. stick around for that at 6:08. we'll see our temperatures for the next several days not too bad. a little bit warmer than normal, reaching into the upper 70s. we will have a windy weekend which, of course, is going to dry out the vegetation even more. we do need to be really careful. we'll talk more about that coming up in a few minutes. mike, how is it looking for the commute? >>> kari, in the south bay we have the only slowing in san jose. it's sticking around. you see that circled on the map with the speeds right around 50 on average from 280 up to 880, that section of san jose. now this is unusual. the slowing off the castro valley y. that's why we have more slowing now. we have the continued closure for the on and off ramp . highway 185 getting through the city and that will remain in place until further

head to the north bay, it's going to be in the upper 60s with ukiah reaching 70 degrees. a breezy wind and i'm so excited about this rain this weekend, maybe you may not be so excited about it as i am but we are going to start to see some of those showers just a couple of spotty, light showers especially near the coast and in parts of the north bay tomorrow afternoon. let's go through the time line, but a much better 5:00 sunday morning, we are seeing that rain coming down even wintry mix farther to the north, as we check out some of our upper elevations, there will be some snow coming down, and that snow continues in the sierra, while the bay area gets some rain off and on throughout the day on sunday. this is the first chance we've had a measurable rain since march 18th for the south bay. so it's been way too long for us to get any rain since we've gotten any rain, and we're looking at about a tenth to quarter of an inch of rain from the peninsula down to the south bay, as well as the east bay. north bay may get over a half inch of rain, although it is really good to se

fire crews medicine oh, tonight are working to contain a vegetation fire that's burning southwest of ukiah. the fire broke out just before six o'clock last night near highway 2, 53 and boonville road. so far about 200 acres have burned and it's only 20% contained. cal fire says steep, rugged terrain is making the firefight a challenge at this point, though, if there's any good news, it's that no structures are threatened. we are tracking the weather. it cooled off significantly today, temperatures dropped a good 10 to 15 degrees. forget the coast, but it kind of got chewed up. it's out there now, but it's not a real widespread bank. it's really chewed up and kind of in pieces. it'll form reform tonight, but i don't know if it's gonna have that same cohesiveness that had this morning when it was basically everywhere. it's gonna be cooler tomorrow and the reason the fog might have a little trouble is there's a kind of weaker, low pressure center getting close and that disturbs the fog formation. it makes it harder for injection fog toe set up actually makes it harder for all fogs to set up.
