what do you make of the arguments with romney's delegate lead being virtually unbeatable. right now he leads 454 to santorum's 217. >> well, the fact is neither of these candidates within the republican primary base has been able to really solidify the support that's needed. and when you consider the independent voters and then the democratic voters, i don't think these candidates are really presenting themselves as a candidate that can win in november. and that's what is important. this primary battle is an inner family fight, but the american people are looking forward to november. and they want a candidate that is solid and stable and not irrational and erratic. that's what the president is giving them these days. and the republicans are self-detrukting. i don't think it makes a lot of difference as to who -- finally emerges from this field of three people. >> so s.e., the primaries historically come to matter and now they really matter. who benefits the most come together? >> usually the states follow, they don't choose the next nominee, but it is interesting if you lo

romney has never truly broken free of the pack to establish himself as an unbeatable force.e, individually he has clearly outgunned each of his challengers. but if we put them all together, make them one color, and it's not at all clear that he is the choice of this party at this point. for a comparison let's jump back to 2008 and look at john mccain's delegates at this point in the primaries. completely overwhelming mitt romney's and mike huckabee's. there was no question at that convention who the nominee would be. so back to this race, if the party stays this divided until the convention, what will happen? first you'll have major fights on the floor and behind closed doors. multiple votes as each campaign twists arms, makes deals, and tries to push delegates into giving their guy a majority. second, you'll have furious talk of draft movements. efforts to drag in someone who's not even a candidate right now as some kind of a 11th hour compromise, such as jeb bush, chris christie or mitch daniels. and third you will almost certainly see a republican party coming out of its
