we worked especially hard this year in trying to bring undergraduates to our conference. they have a special poster session competition. we have more k-12 teachers than we used to have. we have more people with advanced degrees in history who are doing things other than being professors. in terms of just attendance, it is very different. i think in terms of the modes of presentation. 10 years ago, especially 20 years ago, our conference looked like a lot of other academic conferences, which is you would walk into a room and three people would read papers. one person would comment and the audience would ask questions. that was the standard format. now we have a lot more workshops. we have workshops for teachers, workshops for people who do various kinds of history. we have a lot of professional development sessions. the format has become a lot more flexible. a lot more roundtable this . roundtableg, a consisted of one person speaking for 10 minutes about an op-ed he had written and three other historians criticize what he has written, responding and opening up to the audie

there were a mix, undergraduate, graduate, but for people who were going into a specialty of getting your doctoral in history, you had to meet certain prerequisites with regard to your undergraduate study and i didn't meet them so i had to take those kind of courses so i suspect that they only saw me as some old man sitting in the corner. didn't care one way or less. professors, more, were in tune with the fact that i was military, and like i said, a bunch of them were very favorable, but i did have a number of professors who were anti-military at the time. when i got into the graduate reading courses, of course, because you're a small group of people and you got to know one another. and then there were people there that you -- i went through school at university of north carolina with another guy who was coming back to the history department, so -- and there were a bunch of military people that were in that triangle area, north carolina state, north carolina, and duke, that returned to west point, either in history, english, as a matter of fact, so we got to know one another as well

a third goal was undergraduate s.t.e.m.graduates with undergraduate degrees in s.t.e.m. a fourth goal was to broaden the participation of underrepresented populations in undergraduate s.t.e.m. and the fifth was graduate s.t.e.m. education, aligning graduate scholarly study and production of graduates towards high demand workforce needs. so that will be coming up soon. there's actually a committee that's for him as result of the america competes act called the committee on s.t.e.m. education that spans the 13 or 14 total agencies. they're called co-s.t.e.m. for short. the committee added a six goal to this report, computer science for all. that goal was to make sure to provide to pre-k-12 students across agencies the opportunity to learn computer science skills. so soon that report will detail how we did on making progress on those six goals now, what new models may have evolved and developed through the skin agency collaborations with sort of partnerships have come forth to leverage assets and maximize impact, and how we wi

i was giving a given a talk at a liberal arts college and i was talking to someone who teaches undergraduate courses and ask him what he was teaching he said i had 18 students and wired to more than 18. yes these things happen all the time. or an in law school for example. one of the main factors in the rankings is the ellie st scores. what are law schools do. they admit students with high scores as normal students and then they admit those with lower scores on a probationary basis so they don't get included in the rankings. or here's another thing that goes on all the time. law schools go and raid schools that are one level below them by taking the students who started at another school. because there is scores have been lower. have them transferred to the higher rated law school and then there scores don't get counted because they weren't part of the freshman class. one of the effects of all of this ranking and ratings has been a tremendous amount of gaming in the educational sector. unfortunately it's true that a lot of the most important things in education are very difficult to measure.
