you have this large swath of land that's owned by the city but it's undeveloped and within the past few months there's been an explosion in the number of people coming here with their tents because there was another homeless encampment in town that was shut down so a lot of people migrated here. what makes this encampment different from other encampments is that it is in the wide open. it's unsightly. the city argues that it is unsanitary. and there's also concern about crime even though san jose police have said there hasn't really been an uptick but there is concern there could be crime. the city did give the people who live here and there's probably maybe around 100 people, 70 tents. they did give people 72-hour warning saying today at 9:00 we are going to come in here and clean this up. one argument for cleaning it up that the city is putting out there saying, look, if we let this homeless encampment stand, then it will encourage people to move to other open areas and set up encampments there. they want to use this as an example that if there is open land like this, they do not want
