that the african-american unemployment rate in essence, taking credit for the african-american unemployment dropping when it has only dropped 1-point-something percent and dropped under barack obama -- >> if he was going to be the worst american president for african-americans -- >> he has been. >> the unemployment's continued to go down, the lowest in history. if you're looking for a job, things are -- things are getting better, not worse. that is a fact. >> actually -- actually, if you want to talk about it, you have a ton of people dropping out of the labor markemarket, it's shrinking. i want to talk did b so-- to aun about something more important on national tv. if republican wants to do something for african-americans, people of color in this country, we can address that we don't have generational wealth. cnn did a study not that long ago where it showed that if -- >> kaiser foundation in conjunction -- >> in conjunction with the kaiser foundation, if african-americans were able to make the same amount of money as m white counterparts today, it would still take 200 years to accumulate

rate is 3.7%, asian unemployment is 2.5%, hispanic unemployment% is 4.9%.re's a lot of room for improvement, especially among african-americans. >> yeah, and i think that what you heard from marcia, and you mentioned earlier, okay, black unemployment is low. black underemployment is extremely high. that's why we have this big growing gap in income inequality. if you look at employment as the sole measure, then you have to say sharecropper is employment. but it is the kind of employment that would keep you busy without paying you much. that's what's going on in the country today and we know it. we were looking at some figures earlier, marcia and myself along with cedric, looking at boston. the recent report out about boston. where a family -- family wealth for black families in boston, $8. $8, single digit, $8, in the city of boston. for whites, over $257,000 in boston. you tell me, is that something to boast about or something to turn our attention to and start working on? that's what i would like for this president to do. stop tweeting. stop boasting. stop

levels to white unemployment levels. you know there's an onward or has been a pattern of decline. how do you suggest that the president might be able to make a promise that perhaps he would be able to take credit to something that would speak to uplifting the lives of people of color? >> absolutely. this president could direct his attorney general to pursue a set of policies to ensure people are not maxed out in terms of sentences that they receive, addressing the sentencing disparities in this country, that we don't use low level drug offenses to literally throw away people for an eternity here on this earth. this president could direct his attorney general to invest and push forward programs that ensure that people able to leave prison and pursue work. he could do that. the other thing company do is direct his department of justice to take seriously and address seriously discrimination in the job market, which is real. it's not that people of color want to work less or want to earn less, it's that they feel it's real,

the unemployment rate is 4.1%.is below the consensus forecast for 180,000 jobs the net revisions for october and november, a net revision of 9,000 fewer jobs created over the last two months and previously reported. december private sector jobs up 146,000. 30,000 manufacturing, and 25,000 new workers as well. the same for food services and drinking places. the real story here, job losses in the retail sector the labor force participation rate, 62.7%. basically unchanged. the u6, the so-called real unemployment rate. 8.1% even with this headline number of just 148,000 jobs, the average for the last three months is 204,000 jobs per month. one other interesting demographic story in this particular report, the unemployment rate for african-americans has dropped to 6.8% that's down more than a full percentage point year-over-year. that 6.8% is the lowest since the bls started keeping records back in 1972 from inside the labor department, i'm hampton pearson. back to you, guys. >> okay. thank you for that, hampton. want

it shows a steady decline of black unemployment and white unemployment. the problem is, overall more black people are unemployed than white people. shouldn't that be the real conversation, how you bridge that gap? >> of course that should be part of the conversation, but the most important question to ask president trump, who tweeted this morning about black unemployment, was what policies have been responsible in your mind that you have put in place to bring down black unemployment? the answer, of course, is nothing. the other question i would ask is, 'eminem has been going afte the president for a year, not one thing, jay-z says one thing and he tweets about him. >> why do you think he wouldn't go after eminem? >> i can't imagine why, probably because he's a black celebrity. he goes after black celebrities all the time to get a rise out of his supporters, but this is a guy who went after barack obama saying he wasn't born here, also attacked john legend. the fact black people -- >> john lewis. >> probably john legend, as well, but he went after john lew

and we can get to unemployment, because that's really obama's policies that help black unemployment. it's not really this president's policies. it's gone down less under him than it did under president obama. so that is a talking point. why don't you think he understands that when you have the majority of african-americans in this country -- and he'll point to the people who support him and it's not that many black people -- and he says it's growing, it's not. that's not true, by the way. it's not growing. why won't he listen to two people who may be trying to help him? because he is president of the united states, why don't he listen? >> i don't think that's in his dna. i really don't. >> do you think he cares about black people? >> i don't. if you listen to his words, if you watch his actions. let's just take some numbers. he's appointed or nominated one black federal judge. he's nominated one black u.s. attorney. and when you start talking about the criminal justice system, that's a key area for african-american men. and they just -- and if you watch jeff sessions' actions, it's j

white unemployment is at 3.7%, asian unemployment 2.5%, hispanic joblessness, 4.9%. you can see african-american 6.8% there. it still trails whites. and median weekly earnings for african-americans last fall were $696 compared with $887 for whites and $1,010 for asian americans. clearly there is a lot of work left. >> absolutely there is a lot of work. but implied in what he said is that we ought to be happy. you remember during the campaign, he said, what do you have to lose? your communities are a wreck. it's the same line of thinking, it's the same tone, it's the same way he addresses the african-american community. and what i have to say is that it's been consistent for decades. this is not new behavior, these are not new comments. what i think is far more important, though, forget his words. it's his policies. it's what's happening in the department of justice. it's the way he's rolling back civil rights gangs. it's the way he relaxed the consent decrees, voting rights, the way he had his voting suppression commission. what he is doing policywise systemically is

especially youth unemployment and the protests so there are differently a number of factors that are. basically leading to disenchantment and discontent i want the iranian population especially the lower middle class and the lower income class ok what about corruption is that an issue that plays into this discontent certainly i mean i there is a feeling i would call it as that as a as a heading for all of these issues i would say that the iranians feel that there is injustice in in the country there are there are. there is corruption there is mismanagement there it there are you know rents that various interest groups including religious institutions various foundations have in iran while the lower income classes and especially the youth are unemployed. and are not catered for so there is a feeling of injustice and corruption is definitely one important element in that these protests began just days after president rouhani revealed his his twenty eighteen budget bill having promised more transparency and than to crack down on corruption what can the president do now to maneuver. so t
