i think when we have hague conventions and important unesco treaties from 1954 that now the united statesmissing, in my opinion, the leader of the free world standing up and saying, say what president roosevelt and general eisenhower said, we're going to protect cultural treasures so much as we're allowed. if it comes down to the men of -- if it comes down to the lives of our men and women, the lives are more important. we're going to do all we can do. this is where young people can come in today. technological skills, most of us won't ever understand. but this is a chance to find a way to use them to do good, especially in these difficult situations like syria where we don't have boots on the ground, we're not going to send in troops for the cultural objects. these works of art are like little kids. they need to be taken care of. and that, in my opinion, is our responsibility as custodians and guardians of them as happened for why they're here today. perhaps one more question, please. >> one last question. >> yes, sir. >> relating to what you just said, we have a lot of powerful cultural

unfortunately, because the united states is not paying its dues to unesco, which funds the world heritage committee, our application could be hampered and i hope that can be overcome by the time next year that there's a formal submission of this application. i'm hopeful that by passing this bill relatively early in this congress that the senate will finally be able to move it and have ample time to consider it. frankly, as my colleague, mrs. napolitano, pointed out, i would have liked to achieved more today. there are other lands in bearx and wilson counties that should be part of this part. i know the wilson county park is of particular importance to congressman cuellar. but after so many years of failed attempts to secure this legislation, it's better to move forward together and achieve what is possible today. so together i believe we are taking constructive steps forward to enhance a national treasure. our action is not only about preserving culture but about promoting jobs. provides xpansion another good reason for family vacations and take the road to san antoin and i yield back. th
