executive authority, the privilege that comes with that is intended to allow a president to get unfiltered advice or counsel within the executive branch and to not have to have one of those officials testify before congress, a separate branch of government. it's been used by other presidents. what's really different here is that president trump has talked about his conversations with james comey. he's tweeted about them. he's done so in interviews. he has also talked about wanting to get all of the information out. and james comey is now fired and he's also previously testified about aspects of the russia investigation in previous congressional hearings. so it seems like the landscape for using executive privilege does not really apply here, but that doesn't mean the trump white house couldn't attempt to do it and this would effectively take it to court. we don't have any sense that they are going to do it, but what is notable is they won't close that option. so they're saying that the white house counsel has to review it, they have to consider it. it's no surprise that james comey is goin
