i want to go right now to zeke unger, a bounty hunter. us about the last few weeks? once they got out -- and i realize this is speculation, but based on your experience with people on the lam, when they broke out of prison and they saw that joyce mitchell was not there with the getaway car, what then? >> well, as a former marine, as one of them was, adapt and overcome, i don't really think they had a plan "b," but they sure came up with something real fast because they were able to elude the perimeter for 22 days. it slowed them down. it kept them from going further than they did, but they were able to get into that rural area where it took a while to get -- flush them out. >> it's quite incredible. we understand that they had a big bag of candy which they brought with them to sustain themselves. but are you surprised that they eluded law enforcement for three weeks? >> no, not at all. it's -- actually, this is fairly timely. as you know, fugitives sometimes we see months and years. the tight perimeters, the canines, the special enforceme

joining us is bounty hunter zeke unger. jason carroll says they strongly believe these two men are still together. to me that sounds like it's good news in terms of the chances of tracking them down, but from your perspective, what does it mean? >> well, basically they were in prison together, and they're used to being together. they've escaped together, so, of course, they're going to stay together to have some form of unity together. you know, they didn't disappear, they relocated. i think that law enforcement will be successful probably within the next 72 hours to locate them, especially with the amount of man power they have put on this thing. >> now, in your experience as the days drag on, we're now into day seven, how much more dangerous do these guys get to the public? i mean, when you're brought in, you're dealing with them right away. >> absolutely. the more time that goes by in this particular matter, i think they're going to hunker down. they don't have -- we believe they don't have resources, so they're going to

joining us now is zeke unger, international bounty hunter with 25 years of experience and 4,000 arreststelevision and saying we don't know if they are within a short walk of the prison or mexico. is that a helpful thing to say? should that kind of open declaration of we have no idea be publicly said in these situations? >> i don't believe so. i think less is better in this type of circumstance. what we have on the forefront is a manhunt and peripheral we have a fugitive investigation. you never want to give information that may tip somebody off. you want to keep it close to the breast. >> what is the difference between a manhunt and a fugitive investigation? >> well, typically a manhunt is where the boots on the ground are going after the suspects. the fugitive investigation is usually conducted between seu units. that's where the prison is communicating with detectives, u.s. marshals, boots on the ground, giving them information on where to go and following up leads. the boots on the ground, their job is to search and find the fugitives. the detectives are the ones developing informati

i want to go to zeke unger. he is joining us from l.a. zeke, we are hearing about how they could have possibly alluded police. somebody is talking about pepper, that law enforcement was finding a all right ing ing a it is thought to hide their scent. >> the moisture has more do with it than anything. pepper technically can detract from the scent but doesn't eliminate it. moisture, on the other hand, especially raining so many days constantly can throw the scent off, giving canines a little bit of a difficult time. >> you're a bounty hunter. are you is you asurprised david was walking down a road in constable new york, plain as day? >> we talked about the mindset of a fugitive over the last two weeks. very stressful. having to constantly steal for everything they get, commit a crime every time they need something. it is a tough way to go. along with the law enforcement officers chasing them. it is tiring for everybody. when you stay focused, this is the results you get in a fugitive speculation. >> what is david sweat, we are speculating,

joining me now is zeke unger, veteran bounty hunter who has more than 4,000 arrests on his record. enforcement agencies across the country. thanks for joining us. i want to start with this. with the bounty that is out for these two suspects are you seeing a lot of activity in your space, bounty hunting? >> well technically, private sector bounty hunters are not allowed into the investigation just yet. if it goes on much longer we'll be assisting law enforcement with providing them with information. right now, i think the primary is to stay focused on the perimeter. law enforcement has a very secure perimeter. i believe that the targets are in there. and i think one of the things we also have to take into consideration is we have a former marine one of these gentlemen -- gentlemen -- suspects was marine trained. so they have survival techniques. i believe that they are out there. they're in the roughly area. i have information that the u.s. marshal's fugitive task force is now on the ground there. and will be assisting, i believe that these men will be apprehended relatively soon. >

that's what zeke unger told us who is a bounty hunter. what are your thoughts? what do you think he's experiencing right now? >> well, just to build on what john said, i agree. i think he is feeling absolute relief. you know, i was special agent in charge in the birmingham division of atf when we had the bombing of eric rudolph. he killed a birmingham officer. he killed people in atlanta in the olympics. we chased him in the mountains of north carolina for five years. i mean, the fbi, the atf, the u.s. marshals, the state police agencies of georgia, north carolina, tennessee, bam balabae were all involved. it took us years. it reminds me of that and other manhunts of cop killers and so forth. we're just mortal men. we build them up in the media. and not wrongly. we build them up as dangerous and armed. and law enforcement does that from the podium because we want to keep the public safe. but they become giants. they become these big, archcriminal guys and all this stuff. and then when you catch them, this is what they are. they're a tired, hungry, desperate guy.
