if you think back to when facebook went public, it was a unicorn when that meant something. and companies like that, when they go public it is something all of wall street watches. >> what unicorn is in the pipeline at this point -- i mean dragon. >> there are not a lot to go public one of the reasons that companies could grow to this side because they've waited, take strike and spacex, they could go public at a drop of a hat and they've actively chosen not to. >> dan, i think a lot of function of the fact that they're now unicornies are everywhere, spacs and so many spacs out there, so few targets. is that a function of this driving up valuations maybe unjustifiably? >> i think a little bit if you're a venture capitalist and driving up the valuation in the private market, generally speaking you've gotten paid for driving up the valuations. there hasn't been any harm in it but stocks as a piece of that, it is certainly inflating it but ipos have as well. most companies that have tried to go public via an ipo has v done so successfully and a good premium to trade in the priva

you brought up unicorns and dragons. dragons seem to be new hot thing. forget about unicorns. a dozen. these companies are worth a billion bucks. it is all about companies worth 10 billion bucks. one of the things that bother me about the whole thing, silvia, how much money is created when company foes private. getting 10 billion valuation and going public for $40 billion, that really fair for the investing public? >> it depends on the company and what it does. ipos hit the market this year not really rewarded investors that hit the secondary market after trading. long term they sort of will if you hang on to them. if you look what is being classified as a dragon, i think these are novel technologies. they are companies like data bricks for example, which is invested in big data, which is massively integral the way we'll operate in a growing digitalized economy. companies like flag, we use it every day and don't realize it, if you're buying things like bitcoin and transferring money from accounts. once those become universally adopted, they will be worth their valuations. to y

i want to talk to you about these unicorns.s valued at a billion plus private companies. apparently there are 800 unicorns, 1900 so-called dragons, private companies with 12 billion-dollar valuations. that is reason i mention it, $3 trillion ultimately trying to go public. how does the market handle something like that? >> i think the short answer, charles, it can't. i can't see the nasdaq accommodating $3 trillion of market cap coming from some of these businesses and i think one of the lessons here, time will tell, time will demonstrate i'm right here calling it or calling it incorrectly, some of those unicorns will become ponies again and some dragons will almost lizards. it happened before the example of casper. casper went public, huge expectations. the ipo didn't perform. its share price has come down today. nothing wrong with the business in terms of its idea and in terms of the its vision but it was overvalued along the way. $3 trillion, i don't think that will be in real life. that is a paper number. when the valueses
