four times of tight budgets with unified school district, how can the city in the san francisco unified school district elaborate partnerships for services such as family health and mental health services. in this area, when i came into office, the board of education was contemplating shutting down or consolidating six of the eight schools in the area. if it was not for the people in this room and others, who came to the defense of the schools, they would have been shut down. i want to say how proud i am of the people in this area. to provide a community and community support system that had grown thin over the years. many of these schools -- they have rebounded because of the partnerships that are exhibited by many people here. i thought i would ask her -- >> the question is, how do we support more after-school programs in schools? last year -- and reduce the duplication of services. last year, the department went through a very competitive process of selecting agencies to provide after-school programs and services. we did this with the school districts. we went to the school district

is being someone who has worked with community policing for years is you don't see a unified vision amongst the city of what they're trying to achieve. and in doing that outreach is always the thing where i find most of the agencies expect people to come to them and as we all know the streets are full of, and your neighborhood is actually experiencing more of this. how can we get outreach to be in the contracts in such a way where they're saying what you're measuring it by, how they're going to implement it, but also what i find in contracting is there's no escape clause. if it's not working, you're locked into it for two or three years. so to get creative with the contracting, that comes into what you were saying, mayor lee work the politics. this could be something to look at. as a pozzive example, mo magic. convenors were throughout all the city but in many cases the convenors who were the people who brought social agencies together to work on a uniformed idea, uniform mission became too political and they said it wasn't working the way it should. mo magic is one of those where i think it really

san francisco unified as a separate entity from the city. we are funded by the state, but we rely heavily on the support services and funding from the city. without that, we would not have been able to be afloat as we have had the last couple of years. leadership has been tremendous. it has severe impact on public health at all the things that our city is made of. you want to make sure that our kids are graduating. the last couple of years, we have been doing a multi-year budget. last year, we're looking at about $113 million for a budget deficit. we worked through that with the labor partners, cutting the costs hit as many places as possible and try to stay as far away from the classroom as possible. we're looking at an additional $25 million on top of the hundred and 13 budget deficit. we have tried to do as much as we can in continuing to be more efficient in cutting back. we're continuing to do for love days. this last year, we're talking about increasing some of the class's, cutting back on some of the programming in it has been a real
