ktvu's alex savage joins us live from the campus with the investigation. >> reporter: union city police focused on finding this shooter overnight. officers stopped and question several drivers in white work trucks matching the description of the getaway vehicle and now as you can see behind us, there are extra officers on hand behind logan high. one day after the student was shot off-campus, officials totalled us grief counselors are available for students. the student is in serious but stable condition. they're looking for a possible gun man, a man with a beard, driving a white work truck with a rack who was wearing a construction vest. to help put students at ease, more officers are hitting the streets near the school. >> we have increased our visibility with the patrol officers in the neighborhood. i find that at least that gives some sense of security and comfort to the neighbors around the perimeter and we have additional units in place at areas where students generally congregate, so we're feeling pretty comfortable about our security setup. >> reporter: the gun fire broke out jus

the search is underway tonight for a gunman who shot and wounded a student near a high school in union city. shots rang out two blocks just afternoon today. the victim was found at 14th 14th and 8th street and was rushed to the hospital where tonight he is reported in serious but stable condition. the high school was placed on lock down for several hours following this shooting. some concerned parents, though, insisted on taking their children home. >> i heard some one talking so i had to -- headed straight here. >> witnesses described the gunman as heavy set latino driving a white pickup truck and blue leathering on the side. the victim is identified as the student. but his name has not yet been released the small christian university at oakland where seven people were gunned down and killed opened its doors for the very first time since that mass murder. classes resumed this week, but the nursing classroom where most of the victims were killed back on april 2nd remains empty. temporarily moved its nursing students to fremont because many of the students found it too painful to return here
