a police officer killed a man who they say was armed with a pipe in union city. it happened at about 8:30 last night on saturn way. officers were responding to a report of a neighborhood disturbance. police entered a home and found the suspect who was already on parole for resisting an officer. he allegedly refused to comply with orders and threatened officers with a pipe. one opened fire and the man later died. >>> sparks middle school near reno will be closed the rest of the week after a student killed a teacher and then himself. cbs reporter jericka duncan reports the teacher is now being called a hero for his efforts to stop that shooter. >>> reporter: dozens found the strength to attend a vigil last night for math teacher michael landsberry. a student killed him during a school shooting near reno, nevada. >> he was honestly like a second dad to me when i went there. a union city police officer is now on administrative leave after shooting and killing an armed suspectn saturn way where they shot the suspect after he threatened them with a pipe. the suspect on parole and had a warrant for resisting officers was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries. the shooting is being investigated by both union city police and the alameda county district attorney's office. >> a former assistant principal at a south bay high school must register has a sex offender. joseph regeto pleaded guilty sexual contact with a minor and sending inprompt text messages. the "mercury news" reporting back in 2011 he was an assistant principal at leland high school in san jose when he started exchanging text messages with a 16-year-old student. that relationship eventually led to a sexual act in a park. he will be sentenced early next year. he faces up to three years in prison and, again, he must register as a sex offender. >> protesters are trying to put a stop to plans for a new san francisco county jail. tonight the city's board of supervisors is set to consider

the alameda county district attorney is investigating another deadly shooting, this one involving union city police. it happened last night at 8:30 when police were called to an argument between neighbors on saturn way. one of the suspects was a parolee with a warrant. when officers went into his home, they say he was armed. >> they began to communicate with him, give him orders. he refused to comply. shortly after he threatened the officers with the weapon and officers were forced to use deadly force. >> one officer shot the man who later died at a hospital. that officer is now on leave as part of the department policy. >>> ukiah police are looking for a 36-year-old man who dropped off his dead 5-month- old son at a hospital emergency room last wednesday. investigators say that after junes brought in the child, he left the hospital and drove to his family's ranch south of ukiah. that's where he left his car. police have listed him as a missing pirn. the coroner -- person. the coroner has not yet determined the child's cause of death. >>> complaints over the website and problems with the dir
