this morning, police identified the 6-year-old boy killed in this attack. nbc bay area's christie smith joins us live from union city. now, christie, one of the things learned is the boy was actually in town visiting families who is not even from the bay area? >> reporter: yeah, police say he is actually from dixon, but i have to tell you that it's been very quiet at the home today. in fact, we knocked on the door but the family didn't have anything to same the neighbors have been out and about, a real sense of sadness here. in fact, one neighbor tells us that he heard some yelling coming from the backyard yesterday before noon but had no idea that this turned fatal. a little boy bitten by the family dog. now, what union city police are telling us is that the dog -- little boy may have climbed on the back of the dog here on elizabeth way. identified as nephi selu from dixon. he was here visiting family for an extended stay. paramedics thought by the would survive. he was taken to lucile packard in palo alto and then the coroner's office called hours later with the awful news that the boy had died. now, a few neighbo
