as far as the union square ambassador program, we also disagree. we need a stronger presence in that area, and we wanted to implement and economical solution to meet the need quickly. union square receives about 5,000 visitors per hour with an increase in tourism, conventions, and work day populations, that area needs more support. we see this as an economical and cost effective and innovative strategy to provide more presence and public safety support to that area. as to the overtime, we disagree with that recommendation, as well. in response to many community requests, businesses, including members of the board of supervisors, the mayor, there's a need for more proactive policing, and this budget asks, helps support that. this is not new funding. this is a repurposing of existing funding in the form of overtime to meet that need. we don't have the current staffing levels to sustain the progress that we've made. we've reduced crime, officer-involved shootings are way down this year. haven't had one in over a year. all these things work together. and this overtime request to support that

i know a lot of people, especially in the union square area, especially the business improvement district, were very much looking forward to this program, and i would like to understand why if we don't go forward, obviously, we still have policing to do in that area, which would seem to me we would be required for more foot beats, so i'm trying to understand the value of keeping the program when it might be more expensive to put more foot beats there to fill a public safety need that is very great in that union square area. >> yes, and thank you for that question. that's exactly how we have to arrive at a decision point. we identify a need, get demands from the public, look at crime statistics, trends, conditions in the area, and we have to decide how we're going to address it, and typically, our only resource is to put officers there. sometimes foot beat, but we have to address it by putting officers there, which is in an ideal world, that's great, but we're looking at a more effective cost-efficient or economical way to do this, and to have a presence, not necessarily uniformed officer,

doing the job of a facility i have to say is one of the most prominent garages in the entire union square area. if you were to put a face on the sfmta shopping system for a world-class shopping system having been to chicago, miami, dallas, austin, new york, boston, union square is one of the most first-class shopping experiences in the entire united states. if all of a sudden jean people were used to having at least 16 valet and now down to zero, and it's this automated system, you reduced something that was part of a first-class jewel to something it sounds like people hate it. to me this is a major flaw of the sfmta and the direction of where we're going in our parking system. and i haven't gotten a clear answer from you on how many more reductions there'll be. i want to say this for the report as we have off-line conversations would you be willing and i could is the sfmta to having a moratorium on more reductions of staff until we can get a real understanding of how this is impacting the customer experience because you weren't even aware today that over 301 buildings the flood building, jus

union square. we are a design firm. we were very excited and we have been in this building for more than 25 years now. we have seen the area evolve. we have been well aware of this project, generally very supportive of this project for all of the reasons i will not elaborate. here is the problem. as somebody who is very supportive of the project, i spent 10-12 hours per day at my office here, in this building. i think i must have noticed the notices, they were amazingly large, by the way, i've never seen notices that large, six of them pasted all across. i could stand 10 feet away and see the link that was provided. i have a picture of it. i went there right away. we spent 10 days evaluating. only to be told last night, at my home, that that was incorrect information. i see no reason, very unfortunate how this project can legally be even approved. the notice was so erroneous. when i say erroneous, it sent us two sketches that we were told later, were done in 2018 on the project. that aside, postponement seems to me to be the obvious solution, otherwise there would be legal jeopardy, this whole thing. in the sketches i do s
