john gors ka, former captain on united airlines is with us. thank you so much for being with us. when you first heard about this crash and the theory about pilots having to battle the automated system, what were your thoughts? >> my thoughts were it was like the lion air crash last fall. the thought amongst pilot force is it possibly was a stab trim augmentation system. and we pretty much all felt the same as far as that is concerned. >> so you're blaming the automated system? >> no, i am not necessarily blaming the automated system. it could be part of the stab trim augmentation system or a computer glitch or another possibility which is a jack screw which manipulates the elevator on the airplane itself. >> that's what's in the "new york times." they're saying that piece of the plane they recovered, the jet screw, suggests that the plane stabilizers tilted upward. is there any other reason stabilizers would be tilting upward if not for some sort of mechanical error? >> well, no, generally not unless the pilot needed to augment the stab trim control switches which are on the yoke

. >> so since we'll have answers in a relatively short time, should american airlines, united airlines, southwest airlines, the carriers here that use the 737 max 8 or boeing ground this airliner until that happens? >> well, i think they should just as a matter of common sense. there are huge questions about this plane. they're already just the websites are exploding telling passengers how to check to see if their plane one is of these planes and how to get off of them. i think they need to get a handle on this both the airlines and boeing. and frankly if i was at boeing i would step forward and do it. because, remember, if an airline or a manufacure, he if an operator takes the lead on -- this would be literally revoking of the air warning certificate. but if the manufacturer takes the lead and controls it, then they have more control about what happens to their certificate, chances are it wouldn't get revoked and they'd have to reapply to the faa. by getting on top of it they're way ahead and it could turn out to be something entirely different. but with two mechanical problems, the
