we turn to united autoworkers president shawn fain. good morning to you, sir.ave said that you had reasonably productive conversations with ford yesterday. does that mean they're going to put a more generous offer on the table? >> good morning. thanks for having us. you know, that's up to them. that's -- you know, the reason we're in this situation right now because all three of the big three companies chose to wait, they chose not to negotiate for the eight weeks we had, we started this in july and told them then don't wait until the last minute or you will find yourself in a bad position. unfortunately they chose to wait until the last week to get down and start talking and get serious and that's where we are now. if we don't get better offers and get down and take care of the members' needs we're going to amp this up more. >> progress is slow. will you order strikes at additional plants this week? are you preparing for that? >> we're prepared to do whatever we have to do, so the membership is ready. the membership is fed up. we're fed up with falling behind.

this week president biden will travel to michigan and walk the picket line with members of the united autoworkersince the autoworkers began a massive strike against ford, general motors and stellantis. but as negotiations with ford show signs of progress, the strike is spreading to more gm and stellantis facilities. here is cnn correspondent van van vane vanessa. >> reporter: you have more members on the picket line after president fain of the uaw announced he would be targeting more facilities at gm and stellantis across kcross 20 sta sending an additional 5600 members out to the picket line, because he said gm and stellantis needed a strong push to come with a better offer. if you notice, ford was not noted in those additional targeted strikes, president fain saying real progress was made with ford. here are some details. according to the union, ford's latest offer reinstated cost of living adjustments, which was something many of these workers gave up in 2009. they're now offering more profit sharing, and temporary workers can now become full-time workers in 90 days. and there's additional job

but the united autoworkers and the big three u.s. carmakers, well, right now they remain deadlocked. i want to go to cnn's gabe cohen, who is on the scene for us in toledo, ohio, at the stellantis plant, where more than 5,000 workers are on strike. it's the larger group, by the way, of the three plants that are striking. gabe, what is happening tonight? what are they telling you? >> reporter: well, look, laura, over the past 24 hours, i've asked so many of these workers how long they think they can strike like this. and the answer that i keep getting over and over is as long as it takes. look, they point to the ceo salaries for the big three automakers, each making more than $20 million a year, plus those massive, even record profits that those companies have been enjoying. and they're telling me they want a bigger piece of that pie. look, the 13,000 or so workers who are now on strike between this ohio facility, one in michigan, and one in missouri are now making just $100 a day in strike pay. each of them paid by the union because
