but also an overview that i think challenge to think about the expenditures of healthcare and quality of care in the united states. one thing that we hear a lot about is how bad healthcare is in the united states. for some of us that doesn't quite tell the whole picture. i would like to start with a literal thought exercise. you or a loved one has been diagnosed with an incredibly serious condition, maybe a rare cancer and you got to get care. and you have to get your suit. how many of you are going to book a flight to some other country because you can go anywhere in the world in this thought exercise and how many would you book another fight to get your care somewhere else? usually there is one or two because some countries have much looser oversight of experimental therapeutic trials. you will go overseas for that. in fact, the united states enjoys some of the best health outcomes for complex conditions including breast cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer in the world. so, while we have an incredibly expensive and at times fragmented system, there's pieces of the system that are working well. that som

classic, uncredited, fragmented healthcare in the united states. that little defibrillator and how much would it cost her at cedars-sinai? i don't want to ask. [laughing] mayo, is your price cheaper? right? this is not optimal care. classic fragmented uncoordinated care, and she's at home. as i said i've gone around the numerous places looking at what they do. i have identified 12 what i'm calling transformational practices. these are practices that, places that are really knocking it out of the park doing high-quality, low-cost, and good patient experience are doing. importantly, i want to say two things. not every place is doing all of them. sometimes they do one or two, even the best places that have really been doing transformed care and high value to care for several decades, right, are not doing to all. no place i went to our doing all 12. so even at great places there is still pointed room for improvement which is one of the things that makes me very, very optimistic. it begins with scheduling. the first interaction with patients. how do you
