satellites, a big part of what the air force does, what steps is the air force taking to protect military satellites from the attack? withy -- would the united states ever attacked another nation's satellites? >> we just launched a couple of weeks ago from the air force base in california the first block 10 space satellite platform with success. its purpose is to assure that we can watch our systems, be able to determine adverse activity with respect to our states' systems. i believe you cannot deter if you cannot contribute. we are pursuing a path with respect to protecting our assets, which allows us, again, to survey, observe, confirm, and a tribute if and when our assets come under interference or attack or what have you. this is vitally important, clearly. have very important asset in orbit -- we have a very important assets in orbit. we have assets that do more mundane things that you all know very well, precision and timing, like gps, and very importantly, strategic warning. the bottom line is, we are positioning ourselves now not only to look down, but to look up to the heavens. >> what about the offensive piece of that? >> the national pol

where the united states and the coalition forces believe insurgents -- they sort of use it as a staging ground for attacks into afghanistan. there has been increasing military activity, increasing aires in this area because the united states has concluded that pakistan either can't or won't -- can't or won't do what it takes to control the militants in that area. this has, of course, inflamed anti-western, anti-american sentiment in pakistan leading to the shutdown of a key nato supply route through pakistan into afghanistan for coalition bases. now, yesterday in the states, admiral mike mullen, the chairman of the joint chiefs, talked about that. and he said some of the history of the united states' relationship with pakistan is actually responsible for these tengs. he said that we left them -- we the united states -- left them in a dark hole from about 1990 until 2002 and they don't trust us. and we're trying to rebuild that trust. and talks are under way between the united states and the nato forces, and pakistani officials trying to get that supply line open again. but fr o the time being nato says they are not feeling any effects of that closure of the shutdown of that supply
