today our hearts go out to the families of john larimer of the united states navy, rebecca wingo, air force veteran, jesse childress, an army veteran, and member of the air force reserve, and jonathan blunk, a navy veteran who died shielding his girlfriend from the spray of bullets. the loss of four americans who served our country only adds to the profound tragedy of that day. all americans are grateful for their service and deeply saddened by their deaths. we mourn them and we will remember them. now the vfw, as you know, is now over 2 million strong. it has a special place in america's heart. some of you fought recently in iraq or afghanistan. others are old enough to have marched, flown or sailed by orders of franklin d. roosevelt. whatever your age, whether you're republican or democrat, whenever you serve, theres one thing you have in common, you answered the call of your country in a time of war. from december 7th -- from december 7th, 1941 to september 11, 2001, whenever america has been tested, you stepped forward. you have come from our farms, our great cities, our small towns and

it is a very surreal kind of thing to think about pilots being in an air force base in the united states or when that drones are being run by the cia. they can be outside of virginia. and they are in an air-conditioned room. sitting in an ergonomic chair, and they are looking for hours and hours on end at as seen in a place that they may never have been to comment on speak the language, don't know the culture, and they are hovering over people's homes for days at a time, sometimes weeks at a time. and they are the ones then that press the kill button. now, it is -- studies have been done that show that these pilots are often times having the same kind of trauma as soldiers on the battlefield have because they are being asked to do something that i think our brains are not required to do. that is to kill people remotely during the day and then go home in the evening to their families where there are supposed to be loving fathers, loving husbands, integrated members of their community, part of their church group. there is another problem that the pilots talk about, and that is boredom. the

state and local police departments that have asked the faa for permission to fly drones. the faa has to say yes or no. the air force, which recently acknowledged its flying drones over the united states to spy on us, predicts in ten years there will be 30,000 drones in the stay over the united states on any given day. some of them the size of golf balls. so who is going to regulate the government when it dispatches drones of that magnitude. >> there was a story, the epa was flying drones. they're not, they're flying single engine selves cessnas. are we to believe the 300 police departments that filed are not looking in on our activities? >> it's going to be tempting for them and they'll probably do so. a republican from texas is working on legislation which will bar private drones from surveilling private property and require government drones get a search warrant before they spy on the rest of us. that would be the appropriate thing to do. the problem is not the manufacturers, the problem is the operators and the government will think it has free rain rein to spy. the joke is what does the taliban and iowa farmers have in common? they're both watched by government drones, the
