at that time in 1991 the united states air force had 134 fighter squadrons, 134. today we have 55. the pace of operations is one of the things driving difficulty and retention in the air force because we are burning out our people. we took the first piece of this study. there was a lot more we will go through over the next 5 to 6 months to get the final study but the interim report to congress we promise them in the august september timeframe and that study looks at the national defense strategy, how would we best do it? a lot of wargaming and simulation looking at the current operating plans and what would the general mix of forces be? that was the first piece of it. we decided to share that not only with the congress but more publicly last week. it is not intended to influence the fiscal year 20 budget, this is a long-term view looking at the threat and how the threat is changing so the air force can provide a sense of where we think we need to go in the 2025-30 time frame to keep pace with the threat. >> how much lacking operational capacity could be filled by fully funding the r
