[ applause ] and i'm the only veteran in the race. the time comes to talk to veterans inment has ham and across the united states of america they'll want to know if somebody on the republican ticket has had the experience of serving in uniform. well technically i wasn't overseas leading in uniform but leading up to it it was and serving overseas on behalf of our country. i went back to uva law school and eventually elected to be chief prosecutor, prosecuted cases, large staff also, then i was elected to be the attorney general of virginia, then the governor of virginia. the congress came to me and asked me to chair several major federal commissions. the one i think i'm most proud of was when i chaired the national commission on terrorism and weapons of mass destruction on behalf of the united states. we issued our reports and in 1999 we issued our first report and told the congress and the administration that a chance of an attack in the homeland of the united states
