a 2017 study by the united states department of agriculture discovered 29% of american farmers did not have reliable internet access despite the fact that agriculture is all about technology today. without reliable broadband access, we are leaving money on the table and the american economy is failing to meet its fullest potential. connectivity and competition go hand in hand. we can continue to invest in rural communities with 5-g. agriculture, health care, energy, education, and so many other industries demand this level of service. in 2018, we ushered in a new farm bill that underscored the importance of broadband in rural america. under a broadband guaranteed lending programs, larger rural communities are permitted to build infrastructure for telecommunication networks. the farm bill also supports broadband development where it's most needed by prioritizing funds to rural communities that are at least 90% underserved or on served. we can also encourage innovation on this front through the opportunity zones. established by the 2017 tax cuts and jobs act, mr. speaker, opportunity zon

we talked to the united states department of agriculture and it told us when your refrigerator could last for four hours provided you keep the door closed. frozen stuff is longer. they will stay 24 to 48 hours and the more stocked your freezer is, the longer it will keep. now, got to keep the door closed. here is this suggestion. start freezing water jugs and stock the freezer full right now. also crank it down. keep it as cold as you can. both parts of the frig. talk about generators for a little bit. they are just flying off the shelves. a lot of stores are completely sold out. we have a lot of novices with these right now in the yard or in the garage or please not inside of the house. i caution you to read the instructions. ta from start to finish. if you don't understand, consult if you are not known. there are serious hazards with home generators. i want to walk you through them but i don't want to scare you but this is serious stuff when you bring these into your home. first and foremost, there are shock hazards. if you don't hook it up right, shock and electrocution are possib

i think the united states department of agriculture needs to reinvigorate and refund its housing programthey used to build over 30,000 units a year of affordable housing in rural communities. those programs are completely and totally gone. i think that h.u.d. needs to replace the $54 billion a year. this is every year over now 35 years. homelessness is not knew. these boulders are not new. the state of california puts up boulders all the time. the city of portland, oregon, put down boulders to keep people from camping there. the neighbors didn't just make it up and are emulating what they see their local and state governments doing. the federal government, all the candidates for democrat -- or for republicans should be looking at the role of h.u.d. in ensuring people have a decent place to live because housing that isn't a commodity for people is a worthwhile housing program just like the homeowner housing subsidy program through the i.r.s. which is over $140 billion a year. if we can afford $140 billion a year in housing subsidies for homeowners, we sure as hell can do better than $34 b
