. ♪ announcer: a discussion with high school students attending the annual weeklong united states senate youth programstudents talked about their interest in government and politics and shares my highlights from their visit to washington, d.c. give us your name and where you are from. >> i am aaron sullivan from abingdon, virginia. brian: what brought you to washington during this last week? >> i came here to learn about public service and meet all sorts of people like the chief justice of the supreme court, some senators, the president vice president of the united states. -- i amfor president from fredericksburg, virginia. i'm interested in pursuing public service through government or the private sector. i thought, what better program to learn about public service? we get the chance to come and interact with not only incredible speakers, but also each other. everyone here is very impressive and accompanist at a young age. i have learned a lot from people here. brian: who sponsors this and how did you get to be chosen? hearst foundation sponsors this. i did an application for my school and wrote an e

brian: those of you who at home have joined us, this is the united states senate youth program.hese folks have been here in washington for a week. they have seen everyone from the chief justice to the president and almost of the nine senators. this is all underwritten by the hearst foundation. and don't you all get a scholarship out of this? chief justice to the president and almost 79 senators. stand up, why does he think you are so nice? >> i am someone willing to understand. my parents go back and forth in the election so i'm a more moderate person. i really value learning the intention behind someone's viewpoint. i believe if we were to all andi believe if we were to all and address each other in this way and try to be empathetic and understand how someone has the views of that they hold, we would not be as partisan or as polarized. brian: how big is your scholarship money? >> we get $10,000. brian: where you going to go to spend that? >> my biggest hope is stanford but i am also looking at vanderbilt. brian: what you want to study? >> education policy and possibly computer
