>> even that remark about the african-americans are supposed to act a certain way is itself an expression of racism. but, you know, what i can't get is like why -- why can't you disagree with someone, disagree with congressman clyburn and senator scott and embrace his success and how he is a role model for many, just as congressman clyburn is a role model for many and instead of rip him apart, tear him apart. i can't help but feel bad for senator scott because he certainly takes a lot of income in. >> right. we should be proud of senator scott. but you know, when i was coming up, greta, we applauded in the '60s, we applauded the success of any black person that we saw that was advancing the cause of democracy, the cause of our people. we applauded those successes. and now it seems that people like representative clyburn are using those -- the suffering and the struggle that we had to get here as a way of exploiting their continued political gain. and that is deplorable to me to use the history of some of the problems that we've had in this country because people have suffered under racism. but to bring this up and to say that -- to imply that senator scott is not loyal to his people because he disagrees with what the democrats are saying or how they feel like he should be voting is crazy. and it's irresponsible, to me. >> i have no doubt that racism exists in this country but also what exists is doing something that is sort of a political bullying, you know, and i think you can disagree with senator scott or anybody else but this goes far deeper. this is not going after him as ideology but i'm taking the last word on that. reverend faulkner, nice to see you. >> it's a pleasure. thank you. >>> president obama holding an event at walmart. former secretary robert rice's response. what numb skull in the white house arranged this? >> i went twice during oval office meetings with the president. there were half a dozen people there. occasionally people with other people in the white house complex. they are generally off the record but you get to discuss things with the president and he's more relaxed than he is usually in public. i did one with president obama laying ground rules. this is the kind of thing that goes on a lot. >> but alexander, i haven't made the cut yet for any of these invitations. i guess the difference here is that you can bypass the ordinary conventional types of media and you get blogs that sort of poison it and you can say horrible, nasty things about people and you don't have your fingerprints on if you use a surrogate. >> right. we have partisan media on both sides of the aisle. what it does get at it is the deeper issue with the obama white house which was the fact that they have an unprecedented control over their message. they also don't give sort of mainstream reporters the access that they are asking for and yet maybe some of these partisan bloggers are getting a little more access than we would expect. it raises questions about how transparent they are, how accessible they are. >> you know what always bothered me, when congressman paul ryan was chosen to be president. i thought. why is everyone using the word bold? everyone is going to repeat what each other said. >> i agree. that's the real problem. the existence of liberal writers, that isn't the problem. the problem is when you get liberal writers who advanced the agenda, not something to be reported or making the argument and even one of them said he's going to call my boss a racist, just to sort of distract. >> that is so dirty. >> that's been published. the problem isn't really a simple existence, when they do things like that or when the mainstream media follows their lead. >> if you call someone a racist, homophobic or anything, you start a campaign on any of these websites against a politician or anybody else, it is really -- you know, it's deadening. >> i think it's misleading to talk about bloggers. during the obama years it's been ezra klein formerly "the washington post." he was operating like a liberal blogger and with all of the credibility of the a big old institution. they had him there a lot and he could print essentially white house spin under the heading of analysis. and or wonkery. that is bloggers when the important part about the story of how the white house relied on a blogger, especially during the obama care debate. >> which is why the -- you know, viewers have to be aggressive and go to many different outlets and compare and contrast, put our feet to the fire, we get it wrong and hammer us on it because it is poisonous what goes on behind the scenes. let me ask you about something else. secretary robert rice saying, what numb skull in the white house arranged this, he's talking about president obama choosing a walmart as a backdrop for today's speech. president obama talking about walmart being accused of -- john, when he says what numb skull, i say very sarcastically, probably the same numb skull that did the talking points on benghazi. robert rice says, what numb skull used walmart. why is he saying that? >> he's a real true blue progressive because they don't pay high enough wages and the white house is willing to work with walmart and they are willing to scratch the back of, you know, progressives. they are a big funder of this organization called the center of american progress. some of these corporations have been shaken down and the president was praising them for being environmentally friendly. so they are willing to go along with an agenda item and we are more than happy to praise them for what they are doing. >> and in terms of fast tracking, i looked at research and discovered that in 2008 i had forgotten that the obama campaign criticized then senator hillary clinton for being on the board of walmart. suddenly it's one minute the thing is awful and the next thing it's your best friend. >> this is the first time that we've seen labor irritated with obama which is a problem. they've been frustrated about obamacare and they have not given the access with previous democratic presidents. they don't think that he's been on their issues. and so it is a big problem for them heading into the mid-determines because unions are typically sort of a core aspect of the democrats turnout machine and if they are not enthusiastic, if they are not getting out and knocking on doors, it could be a big problem for democrats. >> that's an extremely important point. there's a changing relationship between top democratic politicians and long-time constituencies, the labor unions. recently the head of the laborers international union wrote an op-ed in "the washington post" to approve the pipeline. they want the jobs that the pipeline would bring. go back and look at what the labors union has given to democratic politicians over the last 25 years. it's about $38 million. almost all of it to democrats. you've got a single individual, the hedge fund billionaire who and poses the pipeline saying he's going to give 50 million of his own, plus raise another 100 million. you've got one individual who can give you $50 million this time around versus a union that has given 38 over the last 25 years. that question answers itself. >> except for the fact that moving out money and get to hold the issue. panel, thank you. >>> okay, everyone. here is what is being hashed out right now. trending on twitter, dr. dre beats in a selfie, dr. dre confirms the beats' sale to apple. apple bought it for reportedly 3.2 billion. wow. >>> and by the way, otr fans, that's for "on the record," how come no one pointed out that i guessed last night that the packers would pick haha in the draft? i'm glad. i own a share. and in case you're wondering, his grandmother apparently gave him his name when he was 3 years old and just to prove how big of a fan i am, you may remember when i wore a cheese head literally and i'll wear it again. boy do i look like a fool but i love it. also trending right now, mother's day, i tweeted earlier my mother was always in my corner and was in trouble with the nuns. #mothersday. >>> and a satanic event causing outrage on campus and among catholics. the senior chaplain and harvard student is here next. >>> and students are fired up over a teacher being fired. a live report coming up.
