they worked in universities and universities were very different. universities and corporations could not have looked more different. corporations sought to maximize their profits. universities were actually centers of science. they were centers of research that was clearly focused on the ills of society feed a medical or social or whatever and it attracted people who are drawn to that role. the university had quite a unique role actually in pursuing the public interest and that was true of medical research as well. in fact there were laws and regulations that band universities from using the discoveries that were made with government subsidies. they could not license the corporation and they could not sell them to corporations in most cases so there was a very very clear and permeable membrane between corporations and universities. it's not there anymore and i'm going to talk about what happened when it dissolved. so, one of the consequences although maybe not the most important consequence, is the cost of medications. i think i noted here that whe

in town and the university? well, i'll tell you an experience that i had a few weeks that ago that might point us in a direction. ispeaking at the school in north carolina, and winston salem that still a school today. it's a public school, and i spoke at an assembly, after a spoke a young african-american teacher came up to me and said i can't believe it. i've never heard of the schools. but i grew up in connecticut, and my church, a black baptist church, had a relationship with the synagogue in town. i used to go to the ceremonies and i celebrated all the jewish holidays and the jewish community would come to my church and do things with us. i'm amazed that i don't know the story about rosin walled. i think little projects like that can build bridges. it's an interesting and important relationship the relationship between jews and blacks. >> thank you. so i don't see that as -- the college university students they don't go to the university library anyore. you go to the university of chicago we don't see any people there. but you will see some kids drinking coffee or what have you, socializing. it's just not efficient research as far as storage is concerned, you could put every book that's ever been published in the full text and at all the works of art and music and you've probably seen it on a chip this large the whole world would have access to it coming and i don't think these libraries can compete. there's been a significant reduction in the use of university libraries in particular. now, book sales -- hard books. i see why that evokes, but hard books it has an increase but it sort of has its own so that's not the problem for reading books that are in the old fashioned printing book working on the opinion of it much easier but to read an entire book rather have the book. that is to see if you on the hard books, it's hard to beat amazon as a motive distribution to the books compared to bookstores. so what are the effects on the
