it all started yesterday in south philadelphia and ended in university city. one of the men is in custody now. he was hurt during the shoot-out. and investigators believe the person who got away was in a van. >>> and we're getting more perspective on that deadly police shooting in south carolina. thanks to video shot from the patrol car of the officer charged with the driver's murder. late yesterday officials in north charleston released this dash cam video from the patrol car of the former officer michael slager. the video from last saturday shows the traffic stop involving the south jersey native and the driver walter scott. sla slager told scott he was pulled over for a faulty taillight. scott said he didn't have license or registration because he was in the process of buying the car. after slager returned scott bolted from the car and then moments later the cell phone video caught slager shooting scott. >>> this morning we are hearing from a sheriff in california who called this arrest video disturbing. look at it. he's ordered an internal investigation in

nbc 10 was at 39th and walnut in university city. fire officials say flames from the first floor dumpster sent smoke to the upper floors through a trash chute. investigators will be looking for the cause of that fire. >>> robbed at gunpoint. police are looking for the two men they say robbed a man overnight while he was leaving a parking garage. this all happened near fifth and pine streets in center city. the man was not injured but the suspect got away with his iphone and his wallet. >>> a woman managed to walk away unharmed from this crash in fair monte park along kelly drive overnight. the woman lost control and flipped that -- her vehicle over. >>> and in burlington county two people went to the hospital after a hazmat situation at an apartment complex. this happened last night at the edgewater manor apartments in edgewater park. investigators say the victims were exposed to some type of chemical. officials evacuated eight apartments total. this morning we are working to find out the conditions of those victims. >>> philadelphia

katy joins us live from university city with what those teachers are saying in the classroom. katy. >> reporter: hi, chris. many of us know that students these days are constantly switching back and forth between informal texting and formal writing between schools and exams. for some students it can be tough to make the switch and know when abbreviations and shorthand is appropriate and not. we went to council rock high school where several english teachers met with us. they talked to us about students' writing challenges these days. one teacher tells us her ninth graders tend to slip into text mode when writing formally but older students don't make that mistake as much. >> they said that they often do and that it has affected their writing, the texting, and that they find themselves having to work a little bit harder on formal writing. the 12th graders said they have two mindsets. they have a texting mindset and formal writing mindset. >> reporter: despite the challenges we talked about, we did learn from the teachers that there are some benefits. we'll talk about that comin
