alaska, north slope and in boston. we have philip white, an assistant professor of history and artic in northern studies at the university of alaska, fairbanks. welcome to everybody newkirk. i want to begin with you because i know that those voices we heard of the top are not the only perspective here. a year from alaska, from the north slope. so can you tell us the upside of this project? what, what are the benefits it's going to bring. there are a lot of benefits through the taxation of the oil infrastructure that turns into revenues for the nurse low barrel. that provides for 1st of all living conditions and all of the communities on the north slope. so water and sewer projects, police, and fire protection, educational institutions, anything that municipal government or a city government normally provides more. modern cities been, are slow, broad does that for us on the north slope and has been doing that for the last 50 years. and to make it clear european pro development paula, you've done some reporting with, with locals, from up there that have a different point of view. what are the concerns that you've heard? so

to find out how much water trees roots pump up out of the ground. scott's alaska, from the university of arizona measures the sap, which is 99 percent water. we have fly rivers taking water from one end of the amazon basin to the other. and these rivers are supplied by hundreds of billions of individual tributaries, which are the trees we see in forest all around them. every day we get a pulse of the life of the forest and were able to measure not only the individual fluxes of each of those tributaries on the ground, with those sapling measurements. but we can measure the, the total amount, the total flow of, of that geyser with the special instrumentation on this tower. this anime ometer provides precise 3 the readings of the wind speeds around the tower. and we can see how much water vapor is in the wind coming down, which is dry, and how much water vapor is in the wind going up, which is wet. and that difference gives us a measure of that 30 tons of, of water that's coming off of every hector force, upwind of the tower in that direction. mm. you know, when a large tree in the amazo
