new hampshire. that's according to new cnn university of new hampshire poll. ing a final pitch to iowa caucus goers. she addressed voters last night during a fox news town hall. she came out swinging, rebuking pood president biden's peach as well as front runner donald trump. >> i don't need someone who presidentialed around with segregationists in the '70s and has said racist comments all the way through his career lecturing me or anyone in south carolina about what it means to have racism, slavery or anything related to the civil war. just because president trump says something doesn't make it true. >> less than a week out to iowa. for more, let's bring in katherine lucy, white house reporter at the w"wall street jou journal". nikki haley has come under more scrutiny, including controversial comments about the origin of the civil war. some of those remarks might hurt her, but that doesn't really seem to be the case. should the hah low campaign be breathing a sigh of relief this morning seeing some of these numbers? >> i adopt know if relief yet since no one h

a poll conducted by the university of new hampshire says that 50 percent of likely g o p primary voters are set to back trunk compared to nicky hayley's 39 percent. no. compare that with just a couple of weeks ago where it looked like nikki haley was able to narrow down that lead to single digits. it does appear that she's losing that momentum. however, it has to be said that if there was an electorate that was going to be responsive to nikki haley, then it would be here. this is a state that has a lot of college educated voters. moderate voters on declared voters. and she does do well with those groups. now what has to happen for her to win is that all those groups have to coalesce around her in order for her to be able to be donald trump, who was effectively running as an incumbent with and incumbents machinery. suffice to say that will be and i'll tell time for her telephone little bit more about the new hampshire primary in particular because there's so much attention paid to these early primaries and caucuses. what is it about new hampshire, specifically? what would have victory th

today, but as they make their final pitches, we're getting a new view of how tuesday's primary might shake out. a new kcnn/university of new hampshire poll out today shows trump with 50% support of likely primary voters, against his competitor, winning by 11 points. kylie atwood is tracking the latest on the campaign trail. nikki haley is holding multiple events today. what's her closing message to narrow that gap or perhaps even take the lead? >> reporter: yeah. well, nikki haley is really barnstorming the state, fred. she had eight events yesterday, and six today. she's there with retail politicking, trying to get in front of as many new hampshire voters as she can, and as she does that, she's sharpening her attacks against former president trump. we've seen her in the past say he was the right president at the right time. be critical of him on policy matters, but she's doing more than that now. she questioned his mental fitness after he confused her with former speaker of the house nancy pelosi at a rally on friday night, and this morning in an interview with cbs, she doubled down on that critique and essentially said that that w

university of new hampshire political science professor is still with us in the studio. at are your thoughts on the future of the new hampshire primary? works on the republican side it appears to be business as usual. the republican party, the national party seems quite content to leave new hampshire. and the iowa caucuses in their traditional roles. the iowa caucuses went off without a hitch. there have been difficulties in the past but not this time. looking ahead to 2028, on the republican side, seems like the first in the nation status will be respected. the? it on the democratic side, the there is going to be education, it willtter term, it would have to happen between the new hampshire democratic elites and diversity is a keystone of the democratic party, nationally speaking. that won't change over the next four years. new hampshire will change a little bit demographically, but not a lot over the next four years. what new hampshire democratic leaders found out this past year, they really don't have a lot of allies within the party for protecting the status of the fi
