on one more piece and arguing for equal education in oklahoma fighting to get him into the university of oklahoma as the first black student in the state is effectively arguing that if a black student wants to attend law school in oklahoma then it will just take time and a mess hall is rebutting that argument saying they haven't even brought him up to accredited colleges standard, how do you expect them to set up a law school. it admits the region has no money to establish a law school for negros and the cost of setting up the school. [inaudible] the system of dual education, you placed it on us and it's expensive, then it's not our fault. i think that line, the thought that after all of this history that yes, it's expensive to think about the proposition of educational equity. that's important because it's not the responsibility of those who have the system placed upon them, but the responsibility of those who place the system upon black people and black education some excited for the conversation this evening and with that i welcome the conversation. i look forward to joining you. >> thank you.

they were at university of oklahoma these kids from the midwest, they had no real reason to believe theygone differen ways when you have two parents who have unrealized ambition and then their kids do realize it. but what comes across is how much integrity they had in terms of the work, but also even things like your dad, you know, they didn't take the money, they made sure that you kids knew you were not the meal ticket >> that was the principal. but everything was about a kind of logic we sort of called it midwestern zen. it's a simple logic that they adhered to and a set of principles and it all boiled down to treat other people the way you would like to be treated and they made great decisions time and again and i think if there were any surprises for me, it's not so much the nostalgic look back that stuff is great and i always remembered it and it was fun to revisit, but it really is the family story and the twists and turns and the family dynamics. and, yes, i'm very fortunate in a way, this is kind of a survival story and i owe that to our parents, as well. how many sons are able
