university of the west indies in trinidad. just want to address the separation of powers issue and to look at two examples, balancing an example from either side for lack of a better term. on the one hand, in terms of a separation of powers issue, a president at one time said he would govern with a phone and a pen. i'm thinking if president trump had used that kind of terminology what the reaction would have been in the media. then on the other side, a president who nominated a supreme court justice. the senate majority leader refused to take it up and an entire year went by and nothing was done. now, the narrative is that if it does come up in an election year, we will go ahead and do it. from a separation of powers point of view, just to look at the contrasting examples and maybe to just examine that a little bit because there was some discussion about norms of behavior and other things. and just to put the hard politics into this and the reality of the hard politics and the separation of powers and functions. thanks. david:
