after the american civil liberties union studied nearly 60 different virginia police departments, including the university of virginia police and the frederick county sheriff's office and found an alarming lack of depth and uniformity. the study says only a few, 3 to 12% of some of the departments in a few categories do the following: require officers to inform members of the public when they are being recorded, prohibit the use of body warn cameras to film peaceful protests which are protected under the constitution, allow victims of crime to decline to be filmed. on the flip side when it comes to recording something different like a peaceful prott the virginia department of criminal justice services does not prohibit filming of first amendment protected activities. there are also other inconsistencies on those. they include whether to film in a school or outside or in other pieces of private property. that's why the aclu of virginia came out with several recommendations of what they feel should be included in a statewide body camera law. i'll tell you what some of those recommendations are in the next h
