there's a growing movement to legalize raw, unpasteurized legalize raw, unpasteurized milk despite healthnings. an estimated 1% to 3% of americans are drinking so-called moonshine milk even though outbreaks of illness have doubled over the past five years. dr. richard besser is in washington with more. good morning. so, 40 bills have been introduced in 23 states, all seeking to legalize unpasteurized milk. what are the advocates of legalization arguing here? >> a few things they are saying. first is the government shouldn't have any role in terms of what we can put into our bodies. secondly, they are saying the nutritional value of raw milk is higher than pasteurized. and lastly, that there's a value in raw milk in terms of preventing certain diseases like asthma, allergies and certain diseases. but these claims in the health benefits really aren't supported by the science. >> what about the concerns? >> well, it's a potentially risky product. milk comes from the udders which are really near the cow's intestinal tract. so anything inside the cow there risks getting into the milk. and this
