[applause] >> i said i was that going to cry, so i won't. i was overwhelmed last year, when i emceed on behalf of tom phillips. he gave me a call and asked him to -- asked me to help again this year. he said, kqed will contact you in one or two days. 10 minutes later, kqed calls, and we are going over some of the things that we are doing today. and her voice said, you know, you were nominated, and you won one of the awards. i said, what? she repeated herself. she did it three times. before it sank in. again, thank you. for this prestigious award recognizing native americans in the community. my friend joe sent me an e-mail. he said, first off, congratulations. t

because they're the unsung heros in my book. that's where everything starts. when the 911 call is made it goes to the division of emergency communications, highly trained professionals that get the right resources and equipment to the scene. can't say enough about our police department, working shoulder to shoulder. at one point when things started to go south, i thought i might need to place some your police officers. police department was great with traffic control, m.t.a. got involved in re-routing lines, the water department and like i said, the unified school district because one of the exposure buildings was a school property so they got involved. d.p.w. was involved to a certain extent and h.s.a. and red cross took over. very challenging. i believe there were 41 people displaced. and like i said, that's just a sign of people that didn't have other places to go, as herald and ben might comment on. a lot of times, people have neighbors or friends that will take them in. so you were dealing with many more than 41 just displaced. people trying to get their

much-deserved light on some of the constitution's lesser-known clauses, and swimmers, it's understood, its unsung heroes, it's crazy uncles. to put it another way, if the constitution were a suit and the first, fourth and 14th amendment were a lion, a giraffe and a panda bear, respectively, in this book is about the constitutions shrews, wombats, and bat eared foxes. in believe me, if you've never laid eyes on it that aired fox before, you're in for a treat to so i wrote about 10 clauses. i whittled it down. i do think about what i wanted to include certain clauses in which clauses are wanted to do. 9710 clauses to discuss that promote or illustrate key points about our government or our democratic functions and very specific ways and in ways that i thought were interesting to write about and to read about. so want to tell you what those clauses are before turning to why i decided to write the book. there's the incompatibility clause and that's the clause that says every member of congress you can't beat an executive officer and which may very well disqualify scott brown from being in the national guard
