abc's gio benitez in upstate new york. >> reporter: tonight, hours after those two little amish girls were found alive and safe, we're learning details about the dramatic return home. right from the couple who reunited them with their family. >> i peeked out the window and saw two amish girls and knew it had to be the ones missing. >> reporter: it was wednesday night when police say 6-year-old delilah and 12-year-old fanny were abducted while working their families vegetable stand in upstate new york. after more than 24 hours of complicated searches stretching all the way to the canadian border the girls reappeared 30 miles away from home on a random street in richville. we're told the alleged kidnappers dropped the girls off along this road. they walked it cold and wet in the rain. then they knocked on this door. the homeowner opens up the door, recognizing them from news reports, and takes them home. but before going home, jeff and pam tell abc news exclusively tonight the children were starving. >> they ate the watermelon in 30 seconds. it was fast. >> reporter: it was a challengin

this evening a sheriff in upstate new york says there is no evidence that a crime was committed in a deadly crash on a race track. nascar favorite tony stewart was moonlighting in a minor league race on a dirt track saturday night when he struck and killed another driver. here's don dahler. >> reporter: sheriffs investigators were taking a closer look at the track today. saturday night's incident was recorded by a fan. 20-year-old kevin ward, jr. was side by side with tony stewart's car when he spun into a fence in a dimly lit section of track.dressed in his black fire suit, ward jumped out of the car and walked down the track pointing at stewart another driver avoided being hit while he walked toward the car. ward was hit and pronounced dead an hour later. no charges are pending but the case is under review. chuck miller was the race director. >> it might have been kevin just wanting to show he wasn't going to back down to someone of that statue, but the whole deal started as just a regular hard core racing incident. >> reporter: confrontations between drivers is becoming more commo
