and american airlines and us airways announced an $11 billion merger. us is mark zandi, chief economist of moody's analytics. so many reports of starts and stop of the recovery. what are the possibilities this is a sustained traction? >> i think this is the real deal. confidence is improving, and confidence is key to a better economy. these investors in these companies feel good about their prospects. of course they have very low interest rates, record low interest rates that they can borrow to help finance those purchases. and the shareholders in these companies feel like they're get a fair deal because stock prices are back close to record levels. activities are back to levels we haven't seen since before the great recession and i think that means the country is getting back to normal. >> axelrod: so confidence is going tow produce deals but i think what a lot of people want to know is what does that mean for job creation? >> good question. in the near term, i think it means job losses because most mergers and acacquisitions are about cost cutting alt

the word is we'll get an announcement on this american-us airways deal potentially next week. but already people are starting to put the numbers together and say well this would be huge if it comes true. google, very interesting. $40 billion a year revenue. a lot of that comes from the ad world system. they said we're going to start charging in the middle of 2013 people that use tablets and mobiles to get their messages across. that would be quite an interesting development in terms of bolstering their revenues going forward. just a couple stories to kick around in the business space. and we're a little mixed on the european story. generally there is a positive trading wuind. >> let's see if they can get revenue off the mobile. that's a big deal. of course, one of the big things with facebook. before you go, outgoing treasury secretary tim geithner said i'm not going to write a book. he is going to write a book. there is a lot of fun on twitter about possible titles. i want your pick for the title of treasury secretary geithner's book. okay, "angels and lehmans." american airlines set to merge with us airways. phil lebeau, what does it mean for us, the consumer. >> nine out of every ten flights in the united states will be operated by one of four airlines. you are looking at delta, united, certainly american now the margest and southwest. when you look at the deal put together, look at how large american is going to be, relative to its competitors. it will be larger than united. larger than delta and significantly larger than southwest. further down the line, you see jetblue. but really, the big four in the country are the four you see there from american to southwest. what does this mean for ticket prices? you hear people say, when you have a merger like this, prices go up. the fact of the matter is this is likely to win antitrust approval and it is not expected to generate huge fare increases. most people look at this and say, there might be a few here and there but generally not soaring. where you will see a difference following this merger, we are already noticing it and that's with inve
