at the bart station. it is a story you saw first on abc7 news at 11:00. abc7 news news reporter joins usxplain what happened. amy hollyfield? >> firefighters are saying that it appears the man was sleeping on top of the elevator. the question this morning: how did he get in there? police got the call at 9:30 last night to come here to the montgomery bart station. a man took the elevator to the concourse from the platform and said he heard a crunching sound and a yelp. bart officials found the body inside the elevator shaft and they found personal belongings including bedding on top of the elevator. bart riders are surprised and asking some questions. >> should homeless people be in here? that is an another situation. i don't know about that...it is hard to deal with. >> that is part of the investigation, why was he here? the elevator is out of order. if you are handicapped and ride bart and you need the elevator you may want to skip the montgomery station or if you ride muni this is the internal elevator. they have one that comes up to street level but if you need to ride inside the subw

the suspect tried to use his car as a weapon when officers pulled him over. abc7 news reporter kira klapper is live at the scene of foothill boulevard and d street. kira, i know the details remain sketchy, but what can you tell us? >> they are sketchy as best, carolyn. initials reports is a suspect is dead but officers are okay. as you did say, the investigation is ongoing. you see here on foothill boulevard on hayward between d and c streets, it is closed. the investigation is nearing its sixth hour right now. you can see a maroon four door honda is crashed, doors are open. crime scene tape is around it. this incident is the result of what happened a half-mile away from here about 3:30 this morning on fletcher lane. police were reportedly trying to pull over the driver of a honda when the driver may have backed up into the officer's patrol car and drove away, sped away. that's when police said they were forced to shoot. it's unclear if the suspect who is now dead died from the impact of the crash or from a gunshot wound. the investigation tense here at foothill boulevard between c and d streets. it i

. >> thank you, we would also love your input on that, on our facebook page at abc7 news. tell use investigation continues to figure out what led to a deadly racing crash north of sacramento claiming the life of a north bay teen. abc7 news reporter, cornell bernard, joins us live from the emotional outpouring of grief. cornell? >> classmates say 14-year-old marcus johnson was a wonderful friend at middle school in santa rosa. many cannot believe the tragic accident took his life over the weekend. marcus johnson was an 8th grader at the middle school and on sunday, friends, family, and teachers held a vigil to remember the young man the on saturday threes with one of two people in the pit area killed by an out of the control race car at the raceway park north of sacramento. the car was driven by marcus' own cousin, 17-year-old chase johnson, a senior at petaluma high school. the two were very close and shared a love of racing. >> we were in first grade and three would bring the race cars to our school for events. it was fun to see. >> i cannot thing of a worse tragedy. he and his c

abc7 news reporter kira klapper is joining us live at the marina where the swimmers are getting readyo take off this morning. hi, kira. >> hi carolyn. good morning to you. they are getting ready to take off. in fact take a look behind me at this staging area. all 2,000 athletes' bikes are set up and just about the last of them are off. there are buses beyond the bikes, if you can see those buses, those are the last buses to take the last triathletes out to the boats that will take them to alcatraz where they will begin their races. now we have video from last year's race. the first swimmers today get in the frigid bay at 7:30. the first group is the best of the best. they are professional triathletes. there are about 35 of them. they are expected to cross the finish line, get this, by 9:30. two hours, depending, of course, on the currents. the bay and the course. the triathlon course is a mile and a half swim. it goes from alcatraz to the shore. they have a half-mile run to get to the transition area and an 18-mile bike race and an 8-mile run through through san francisco. i spoke wit

abc7 news reporter, amy hollyfield, is live at headquarters. >> we understand officers are in a briefing right new. they have not been able to release information to us yet. we are waiting to confirm reports that this was an officer-involved shooting. look at the video from the incident. you can see sheriff cars are surrounding a home last night and there are reports that this may have started as a sexual assault and kidnapping but the officers shot the suspect. this is under investigation and officers are working on a press relief. to give you a good idea of where the town is, it is in wine country, in snow may county, northwest of santa rosa and west of highway 101. santa rosa police were involved in this incident but it is the sheriff that is handling the investigation. they getting the information to us. we understand they are preparing the press release right now. stay with us throughout the morning newscast. we will bring you information when we get it. we are keeping a close eye on developing news in southern california where crews have been fighting a wildfire all night long katie has the latest the ought fire is 30 percent contained with liv
